Lockerbie Rotary Club has organised a CPR training event in association with the town’s fire-fighters.
And an open invitation has gone out for anyone interested to go along to Lockerbie fire station on Saturday, December 3, between 10am and 2pm.
People attending the drop-in session will also be given training in how to use a defibrillator and will also have the chance to enquire about joining the town’s retained crew.
Rotary club spokesman Roger Claymore told the Standard: “We want to try and get people trained up on CPR and how to use a defibrillator and we have a map made up where they can be found.
“At the present moment in the town we have 10 defibrillators linked up to The Circuit which is run by the British Heart Foundation.”
“We also have another eight which can be found near the town in places like Johnstonebridge and the Eskrigg Nature Reserve.”
Mr Claymore, who retired from the fire service in 2006, added: “There’s people having heart attacks all the time and it’s a handy thing to know how to do CPR and how to use a defibrillator.
“This is an open invitation to members of the public to come along from 10am to 2pm on Saturday.
“The fire brigade is also doing a recruitment drive so if anyone is interested in joining the fire brigade they can come along and find out what is involved.
“It’s an excellent opportunity to serve your local area.
