Police are investigating the cause of a blaze at a disused house in Lockerbie on Tuesday morning.
Firefighters rushed to the boarded up property in Bridge Street after reports of smoke billowing from the building.
They had to smash their way into the house which has security shutters fitted to the ground floor windows.
Fire crews from Lockerbie, Annan, Gretna and Moffat attended the incident after being alerted at 9.55am.
Lockerbie community councillor Lucie Dudgeon, who lives in Bridge Street, said: “We heard the sirens at about 10am.
“At that point there was a lot of smoke coming out of the building and the roof. I could see the fire engines, then the other emergency services arrived.”
In recent months police have responded to reports of youths being seen entering the property.
Mrs Dudgeon added: “I have not seen any suspicious activity recently but there were a lot of youths going in there last year.”
A fire service spokesperson said: “There are no reported injuries and the last pump left at 1.48pm.”
