Jailed for life for murdering his vulnerable friend after taking 75 Valium tablets and drinking more than 20 pints of strong cider and beer.
Thomas had only been out of prison for a matter of hours when he met up with Robert Young – who had limited mobility following a stroke – in February 2014 and went back to his flat.

Jailed for 23 years and four months for murdering Nicholas Churton in his Wrexham flat.
The knife-obsessed career criminal brutally murdered the elderly man in his own home with a 24-inch machete and a hammer.

Craig Horsfield
The paedophile with a “disturbing” criminal record tried to blame someone else when police found nearly 1,000 images of child abuse on his phone.
Craig Horsfield, 32, from Cardiff, had multiple convictions for making and possessing indecent images of children as well as failing to comply with sex offender notification requirements.
Norman Smith
The “professional burglar” broke into seven homes in Cardiff in two days leaving a trail of destruction and stealing jewellery, cameras, cuff links, and laptops.
He was jailed for four and a half years.
Bryan Hosking
The abusive partner strangled his girlfriend until she blacked out and threatened to kill himself if she left him in an 18-month reign of terror.
On one occasion Bryan Hosking, 20, strangled her until he believed she was dead but when she came round told her: "I was ready to run."
William Price
The prolific burglar broke into a pensioner’s home and stole her jewellery while she was taking her elderly mother to a Remembrance Day church service.
William Price, who has been before the courts for more than 30 burglaries, threw a stone through his victim’s window before ransacking her bedroom, stealing rings and bracelets.
Ronald Lunn
The “perverted” grandfather discussed sexual fantasies involving children in an online chat room and was caught with more than 100 indecent images on his laptop.
Lunn, 68, told police he loved children and was described by his counsel as a family man but he admitted making and distributing dozens of images of child abuse.
Elson Lopes
Jailed for subjecting his partner to a sustained catalogue of physical abuse has been told by a judge that she was “not your property nor your punch bag”.
Lopes assaulted his girlfriend over the course of several months including slapping her, throttling her, throwing a heavy dumbbell at her, and beating her with a belt.
Catherine Coslett
The mother of a murderer who burned his clothing and contacted witnesses in a bid to help her son evade justice has been jailed.
Catherine Coslett, 64, helped Richard Wallis, 43, who was jailed for life after kicking Jan Jedrzejewski in the head.
