A FEDERAL funding boost means Newcastle council will be able to upgrade road areas at four additional locations.
The Commonwealth government's Road to Recovery fund will deliver more than $10 million to the region in the next five years, an increase of more than $4 million.
City of Newcastle will spend $3.32 million of federal funding on upgrading the road embankment at Memorial Drive, the Hill; $2.17 million on the embankment at Lexington Parade, Adamstown Heights; and $2.29 million each on road rehabilitation on Lambton Road, New Lambton, and pavement on Aries Way at Elermore Vale.
These works have been added on top of the dozen projects that have already been completed in Newcastle under the Road to Recovery program, including the stabilisation of the embankment, footway and road formation on Memorial Drive.
Newcastle Lord Mayor Nuatali Nelmes said in a statement the funding boost would enhance the liveability of the local community.
"The Roads to Recovery program funding, matched by $4.58 million from City of Newcastle, is a testament to our shared commitment to improving our local infrastructure, facilitating critical upgrades and essential repairs across the city," she said.
"This boost in funding reflects a shared vision for a safer, more connected Newcastle, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact of these projects on our city's future."
Newcastle MP Sharon Claydon said in a statement that the funding would "build a better future".
"I'll continue to work with our local community to advocate for projects that will support local jobs, boost liveability, and stimulate the Newcastle economy," she said.
