Voters in Wirral go to the polls next month to choose candidates who they want to run the borough.
The May 4 votes will be the first time Wirral Council will elect all 66 councillors at once with political parties and independents gearing up in key areas they are hoping to win.
Wirral’s Conservatives look unlikely to pick up any seats given current national polling and their closest second place in 2022 was a hefty 37% behind the winner.

However Wirral’s Labour Party will be hoping to take back the Pensby and Thingwall seat as well as Birkenhead and win in Greasby, Frankby and Irby for the first time.
Wirral’s Green Party will be looking to pick up seats in Seacombe and Bebington, and keep hold of at least one seat in Bromborough. Meanwhile Liberal Democrats will be targeting Conservative safe seats like Heswall.
The elections come against the backdrop of the council's recent budget with cuts to some services and a council tax rise. New factors like new voter ID requirements as well as a bigger election could also play a role in the future makeup of the council as areas with nine seats up for grabs had less than 120 votes between them in 2022.
If Labour is able to bridge those gaps in Wallasey, Pensby and Thingwall, and Greasby, the party could have a majority of councillors for the first time since 2019. Former councillor Mike Sullivan is also now running again in Pensby after he quit alleging bullying in 2018.
However Labour has already lost a seat in Rock Ferry as only two candidates have been put forward in what is considered a safe area for the party. Paula Basnett who was previously announced as a candidate in Pensby is now running there alongside Tony Murphy.
This is after Cllr Clare O’Hagan withdrew her nomination and Cllr Chris Davies was deselected. Cllr Yvonne Nolan was also deselected for criticising the party and is now running as an independent.
Cllr David Burgess-Joyce is also running as an Independent after he was barred from running as a Conservative in both Greasby and Heswall. Some councillors have also moved wards with Conservative Max Booth running in Hoylake and Labour's Jerry Williams and Helen Collinson running in Upton and Birkenhead respectively.
The deadline to register to vote is April 17 while the deadline to apply for a postal vote is April 18. The deadline to apply for a free voter ID for those who don’t have one eligible is April 25.
Here are the names of everyone you can vote for in each council ward in May.
