Queensland's Liberal National Party has called on the state government to quickly finalise a decision expanding a coal mine on the Darling Downs.
Stage three of New Hope Group's New Acland coal mine, between Toowoomba and Dalby, has been given the green light by the Queensland co-ordinator-general.
It must now be put under the microscope by the state's Department of Environment and Science.
LNP leader David Crisafulli won't say whether he backs the project, which has been on hold for a decade, but urged the government to put politics aside in the approvals process.
"By anyone's barometer, the delays that this expansion has been through one way or another - governments just can't prolong decisions for the better part of a decade," Mr Crisafulli told reporters on Monday.
"I see that as no different from what's happened with the health system - there's always some sort of shiny bauble or there's always some reason for delay rather than to make a decision, and this is a case in point."
Coordinator-General Toni Power approved New Hope's application last week after a legal challenge against the project was thrown out by Land Court last year.
Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said she wouldn't get involved in the project with final approval the responsibility of the DES.
"I don't get involved in those decisions, nor should I," she told reporters.
Meanwhile, the premier insisted her government was taking strong action on climate change after one Labor seat and two LNP seats in Brisbane fell to the Greens at the federal election.
As well as coal mining jobs, she said, Labor was committed to creating jobs in the renewable energy sector in the regions.
"The irony of all of this is most of the jobs that are happening now in our renewable energy industry are happening across regional Queensland and it's been the LNP that has been against jobs for regional Queensland when it comes to renewables," Ms Palaszczuk added.
