Pop star Lizzo has revealed what it's really like at the Met Gala as she apologises for "taking the glamour away" to speak her truth.
The Good As Hell singer spoke about "long queues" at the prestigious event, organised by Vogue editor Anna Wintour.
To attend, you'll need a invite and to pay a hefty fee of $30,000 to $50,000 before arranging your designer outfit for the evening, according to the yearly theme.
The Met Gala's theme for 2023 is Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty and will pay homage to the late creative director of Chanel and fashion designer, Karl Lagerfeld.
Having attended the illustrious ball in the past, Lizzo shared her experience from inside the event and it wasn't all good.
"There's a long f***ing line," she fumed. "I'm taking the glamour away from it but it's true. You've gotta wait.
"So you're waiting and that's the hardest part. I was sweating in a big-ass coat, my feet were hurting," she added, referencing her 2022 Thom Browne get-up which she played the flute live on the red carpet in. Her custom flute for the evening cost $55,000.
"They don't have no chairs, no cocktails. I was like, 'B****? Can we get some chairs or some drinks or some hors d'oeuvres?"
Once she got inside the event, Lizzo recalled being offered only red or white wine as an alcohol choice.
She said: "They were being really stingy with the liquor that night. He was like, 'Red or white wine?' and I was like, 'Tequila! Do you know what I've been through? Do you know how many hours I've been in this corset? How long I've been in these damn shoes? Tequila!'"
Having brought her $55k flute along to serenade the photographers but was ultimately heckled by them, as they claimed she was "putting us to sleep."
"I had this plan to play the flute and do the whole intro [of a classical piece] but I got nervous and I only played it once because all the photographers were heckling me," she recalled. "They were like, 'You're putting us to sleep with the flute!'"
"I was like, 'OK?' In my mind I thought everyone was going to be transfixed. I only played it once, only the first half of it. Then I posed and got the photos."
Despite her unlucky evening, Lizzo looks back on her time at the Met as her personal "prom."
"This is like prom for celebrities . . . My prom f***ing sucked," she laughed. "Now I feel like the Grammys and the Met Ball, they're like my prom."
