A former minister has said Liz Truss laughed at him as she sacked him - saying it was a "gut punch" that sent him into depression.
Johnny Mercer, who served as veterans minister under Boris Johnson, said Ms Truss has lost authority over the Tory Party as calls mount for her to step aside.
Mr Mercer said in an interview for Men's Health Talking Heads series by Alastair Campbell: "When this happened it was such a gut punch. I remember Liz kind of laughing while she did it.
