Taylor Swift has a lot of die hard superfans who dedicate their entire lives to her - but Liz Truss has surely got to be the biggest of them all. It certainly was a Cruel Summer for Ms Truss, who achieved her Wildest Dreams of becoming Prime Minister but has now been forced into Exile after a disastrous 44 days in charge of the nation.
Having previously insisted 'Don't Blame Me' for the country's economic turmoil, she was unable to Shake Off the Bad Blood and will soon find herself without a job and staring into Blank Space. But one thing that Ms Truss does have for comfort are Taylor's dulcet tones - although this has sparked a wild theory in regards to the timing of her resignation.
The American singer's long-awaited 10th studio album, Midnights, was released at 5am this morning to the delight of her loyal fans.
Shehas been working under the radar for the past two years while re-recording her first six studio albums and also releasing Folklore and Evermore during the lockdown period.
In a shock twist, Taylor then released a further seven songs three hours later which she has called the 3am tracks, taking inspiration from The Vault songs on her re-recorded albums.
One person who will definitely be racing to listen is Ms Truss, who is surely the most high-ranking goverment official among Swift’s declared listeners.
Conspiracy theorists believe that the timing of our shortest ever Prime Minister's resignation is no coincidence - as it gives her free time to get through Taylor's new album.
"Liz Truss has just resigned so she can listen to midnights in full tomorrow without the pressure of being prime minister. The true Swiftie," joked one fan on Twitter.
Another added: "Liz Truss quit so she could enjoy Midnight release in peace and quiet."
"Liz truss resigned as pm to focus on taylor’s new album midnight..she’s a swiftie not a quitter," said a third.
While a fourth wrote: "Damn, I know Liz Truss is a Swiftie, but you didn’t need to resign to listen to Midnight. Bit dramatic."
Ms Truss may have been one of the Swift fans who rushed to listen to the new album on Spotify and caused the streaming site to crash - leaving many fuming.
Her love for Taylor's music is well known, and in March 2020 she even slipped some of her lyrics into a debate in Parliament during International Women's Day.
The politician, who was Minister for Women and Equalities at the time, quoted the American superstar's song The Man while discussing barriers for women.
"It is your talent ideas and character that matter, not anything else," explained Ms Truss before she gave a line from the track.
"In the words of the brilliant Taylor Swift in her new song, women aren't left 'running as fast as they can, wondering if they'd get there quicker if they were a man'."
Taylor's legions of fans were split, with some pleased and welcoming her into the fold, while others didn't want the association.
"I don't like liz Truss but at least she's quoted Taylor Swift The Man in parliament before," tweeted one person on Tuesday, while another added: "@trussliz can we please pepper in more @taylorswift13 lyrics throughout your addresses to the nation? Please and thank you"
That's not the only time that Ms Truss has made it very obvious she is a massive Swift fan, as she frequently uses her lyrics in her Instagram captions.
In on post from December 2019, the politician posted a snap where she wore a headset while she was on the phones campaigning for Tory votes.
Quoting Taylor's song Look What You Made Me Do, she wrote: "I'm sorry, Liz Truss can't come to the phone right now..... cause she's #ringing2win #hangingonthetelephone #ringingendorsement #partylines"
Ms Truss has actually met Taylor in real life, proving she really is Taylor's biggest supporter by getting a selfie with her at the BAFTAs after party back in 2019.
She captioned the snap: "Look what you made me do, Taylor.... #squadgoals #swiftwork #trouble #baftadinner"
Many Swifties went into meltdown and voiced their fury that Ms Truss managed to speak to the iconic singer.
"Why has liz truss met Taylor Swift and I haven't," tweeted one annoyed fan.
Another added: "Liz Truss taking a selfie with Taylor Swift like this is the real multiverse of madness"
"Can't believe Liz Truss has met Taylor Swift and i haven't … criminal behaviour actually," ranted a third.
Taylor has been a big part of Ms Truss' rise to the top political job in the country, as she walked out to the song Change during the final Tory leadership hustings.
Ms Truss had a massive smile on her face as she strutted out to Swift's hit track - and she left the stage to another of her songs, Long Live.
"The time we stood with our shaking hands, the crowds in stands went wild, we were the kings and the queens," sung Taylor, which is probably how Ms Truss was hoping she'd be received.
Even Rishi Sunak mentioned her love for Taylor during the hustings, as he told the audience: "I agree with Liz on far more than we disagree on... and I don't just mean our shared love of Whitney Houston and Taylor Swift... When this is done we're going to come together."
