WILL the real Liz Lloyd please stand up?
Those involved in Scottish politics may have collectively gasped at the news “Liz Lloyd” has been appointed to a top role in Number 10.
The Guardian reported that Lloyd was appointed to Keir Starmer’s team as director of policy delivery and innovation on Friday, alongside Tony Blair’s former chief of staff Jonathan Powell.
Except it’s not Nicola Sturgeon’s former top adviser, but a different Liz Lloyd.
Like Powell, she is also a Blairite, having been the former prime minister’s deputy chief of staff. She also served as the chief investment officer at British International Investment.
The Liz Lloyd of former Scottish Government fame responded to the odd coincidence on Friday night, writing: “Thinking of all the cups of tea dropped in surprise across Scottish politics – until folk remember it’s possible for two people to have the same name.”
