Livingston Women's boss warns title race isn't over despite 11 point lead

Livingston Women’s boss Paul Jaconelli has warned his troops that the SWF Championship race is far from over despite the Lionesses boasting an 11 point lead at the top of the table.

A Brogan Anderson strike was sandwiched in between a Beth McKay debut double as they raced out to a 3-0 half-time lead at Rossvale on Sunday.

The hosts fought back after the interval with a pair of Mel Porter goals making for a nervy final few minutes in the clash of the league’s top two sides.

While the gaffer admits holding on to all three points was ‘massive’ for his club, he is far from assuming the title is in the bag as they look for promotion to the second tier.

Speaking to the Courier, he said: “I spoke to the players after the game and made it clear to them that this is far from finished.

“We’ve got a lot of games left to play and they’re all against very good teams so we can’t be sitting in this position now thinking we’ve done anything other than had a good first half of the season.”

He added: “We probably played genuinely good football for about 20 minutes against Rossvale and the rest was more scrappy than anything else, from both teams.

“It was a game going into where you’d say the result was more important than the actual performance and it’s a massive three points for us.

“Credit to Rossvale but we were untidy and sloppy and let them back into the game. They got their second goal with 10 minutes to go and it was a case of holding on for the win.

“Maybe that’s not something we would have done last season so that’s really a pleasing aspect.”

They travel away to Hutchison Vale on Sunday (1pm kick-off).
