Livingston Women’s manager Paul Jaconelli heaped praise on Greenock Morton after the SWF Championship’s bottom club became the first to take points off the Lionesses at home this season.
Coming off an emphatic 10-1 win over second-placed Renfrew the previous week, Livi were held to a 1-1 draw against Morton with Shannon Mulligan’s strike on the hour mark being cancelled out late on by Jacqui Seagrave’s long-range effort.
And while the gaffer admitted a tinge of frustration at not picking up the three points, he conceded the away side were well worth a share of the spoils.
Speaking to the Courier, he said: “Honestly, I thought Morton were brilliant and really deserved to take something from the game.
“Obviously we went into it hoping to get the three points and the players were confident but we just couldn’t break Morton down at all really.
“Sometimes in football you have to put your hands up and admit the opposition deserve plenty of credit.
“Their energy levels were brilliant and defensively they were so solid for the entire game. We tried absolutely everything - I even played two at the back for a spell - and we just couldn’t find a way through.”
He added: “There’s obviously a bit of frustration from our point of view that we didn’t win the game and we missed a couple of great chances but I think it’s important to put things into perspective.
“We’re still unbeaten at home and have a healthy lead at the top of the table so now it’s about how do we react to this going forward.”
The Lionesses will be looking to get back to winning ways on Sunday as they host a rejuvenated Dryburgh Athletic side who have bounced back well from a slow start to the season - which is something Jaconelli admits he expected to happen.
He said: “Dryburgh will be a very hard game. They’ve picked up results of late which I did think was going to happen and we need to be at it from the first whistle.
“If we can do that, we’re confident heading into any game in this league.”
