Livingston skipper admits personal errors cost his side in loss to Inverness

Livingston skipper Nicky Devlin admits he was at fault for the Lions’ loss to Inverness and says they need to be more clinical at both ends of the park.

The Premiership outfit travel to Cove Rangers on Saturday coming off the back of a 2-1 home loss to Inverness Caledonian Thistle on Tuesday night which effectively means failing to pick up the three points will end their interest in the Premier Sports Cup.

They round out their campaign at home to League One side Kelty Hearts on July 23.

The full-back has held his hands up following their midweek loss but insists there’s no panic in the camp despite a slow start to the campaign.

He said: “We just have to try and pick up two wins in the last two games and see if nine points is enough to get us through.

“I’ve played enough games now and I’m experienced enough to know I’ve personally made two big, big mistakes that has cost the team. I hold my hands up to that. I’ve obviously made a mistake for the first goal and then kind of killed Max with the red card.”

He added: “It’s disappointing because we know how competitive our group is going to be. We know losing one of our games, that could be enough to knock you out the competition.

“Everyone is disappointed; manager, players, everyone involved. It’s something we’ve got to put behind us because we’ve got a very difficult game coming Saturday.”

Devlin, now in his fourth season at the Tony Macaroni Arena, believes there’s been positive signs in their cup games against Inverness and last weekend’s narrow win over Albion Rovers and believes it’s just a case of lacking match sharpness.

He commented: “I think the problem has been so far we’ve had good spells in games then when we come off it for five or 10 minutes we are conceding.

“It’s about trying to cut out the mistakes for the goals that are costing us but large parts of the games have been okay.

“I don’t think any team is up to speed in terms of where they want to be going into the season.”
