Livingston football coach appointed head coach of Alloa Athletic Women's team

Livingston football coach Allan Salvona says it’s a ‘huge honour’ after he was appointed head coach of Alloa Athletic’s first-ever senior women’s team.

Salvona, who has been involved at his local club Murieston United for several years will take charge as the team head into their maiden season in the fourth tier SWFL North/East division.

Speaking to the Courier, a thrilled Salvona said the vision and plans of both the club and himself made it a perfect match.

He commented: “It’s a great opportunity for me and with it being their first season it’s a bit of a blank canvas and hopefully I can make the role my own and put my plans into place.

“Alloa is a great community club and from chatting to them it was really evident that their vision and aspirations and hopes for the senior women’s team mirrored my own so it felt like it was the perfect move at the right time for me.

““I’m delighted to be named the club’s first manager. It’s an honour and a wee bit of history, too.”

He added: “Firstly we want there to be that visibility of having a women’s football team in the town for the local community and the surrounding areas because that’s crucial.

“You want people within the community to have that on their doorstep and see that it’s there for them.

“It’s going to be a busy few weeks getting the squad together and getting a few friendlies in place but we’ll all be raring to go for the first league fixture on March 27.”
