Livingston boss frustrated by midfielder's red card decision in St Mirren draw

Livingston boss David Martindale heaped praise on his side’s reaction to another early red card - but insists the Lions once again got a raw deal.

Having been reduced to 10 men after just 15 minutes against Hibs at the weekend following a red card to Jason Holt that the club have since appealed, it was a similar scenario last night at home to St Mirren.

Midfielder Scott Pittman saw red after a VAR check for a challenge on Keanu Baccus with the Livi gaffer disagreeing with the decision.

He commented: “I’m disappointed in the sending-off. I think it’s extremely harsh.

“He wins the ball then it’s debatable whether the player should be in there after Pitts wins the ball. Pitts pulls his legs back so I don’t think there is excessive force.

“I don’t think the referee’s made a clear and obvious error by showing a yellow card, so why’s he looking at the monitor?

“On Saturday, the ref didn’t go and look at the monitor and had the card out within two seconds and here I don’t think it’s a clear and obvious error and he’s going over to look at the monitor.”

He added: “It would have been very easy for the players to feel sorry for themselves. We were value for money with 11 men and very good with ten men.

“We scored after O’Hara got sent-off then I thought we lost our way after we scored but maybe that’s credit to St Mirren.

“We were pushing to get the win and then were lucky not to get done at the end on the counter.”
