David Martindale says he’s in talks with two offensive players – and that would be his summer shopping complete if he gets them over the line.
The Lions saw wingers Alan Forrest and Odin Bailey depart in the summer, with Forrest signing for Hearts while Bailey returned to Birmingham after his loan spell in West Lothian.
Martindale said: “I’m still in the market for one or two offensive players. There’s someone we’ve been chasing for three or four months that went cold and has now come back on the scene so that’s one potential avenue we’re going down.
“We’ve also made progress on a possible transfer from foreign shores, but I don’t know if I’ll be able to get that over the line.
“To be honest, that’s probably us. I think we’re short in a couple of offensive areas but I’m really happy with what I’ve got in the building.
“I like players who can play multiple positions so there are guys who can help out in the offensive areas, but if we can add one or two more in that area of the park, I’d be really happy.
“I think we’re in a good place and it’s just about getting them all in and back into training.”
He also confirmed that three of his defensive options who underwent surgery in recent weeks are progressing well.
Morgan Boyes suffered ankle ligament damage in the final game of the season, while Tom Parkes and James Penrice both required operations to help combat niggling injuries suffered last term.
Martindale said: “Morgan’s op went well and he’s just about to get his stitches out. Parkes and Penrice are still in a recovery phase, but hopefully we’re able to take them all to Spain.
“I don’t like taking guys who are injured when there’s folk working hard every day, but if they’re not too far off it then they’ll come.
“If it looks like they are maybe six to eight weeks away then they’ll stay at home as the rest will benefit them and their recovery more.”
