Livingston boss David Martindale says he expects Jack Fitzwater to still be at the club after the transfer window closes - and hopes the defender will sign a new contract with the Lions if a move away doesn't materialise.
That's despite the gaffer admitting he's actively trying to sell the 24-year-old.
The former West Brom defender is in the final year of his contract and Martindale admits he'd rather cash in than risk losing him for nothing in the summer. That's also the case for all of the club's stars entering the final year of their deals - a list that includes midfielders Jason Holt, Stephane Omeonga and skipper Nicky Devlin.
Martindale said: "We had a few nibbles about Jack at the end of the season but nothing serious recently. I would expect Jack to still be here when the transfer window closes and that surprises me to be honest.
“I see Scottish clubs spending money on centre-backs who are untested in this division when we have a young lad who has a UK passport and played a lot of Premiership games and done well. Would I rather lose him for nothing next year? No, I would rather sell him and make some money on him.”
He added: “We will be in talks with him to try to get him to extend his deal. We have three or four who are in the same boat and when the window shuts I will be speaking to their agents and getting the boys into the office.
“I want to give boys the chance in this window if there is something there for them they want to look at.
“Everyone knows that we are a selling club and we have to sell boys and everyone is in the same boat.”
