Livingston boss believes 'something special' is happening at the club following impressive start to the season

David Martindale believes his Livingston side are on the verge of creating 'something special' at the club.

The gaffer was speaking after a wonderful performance in a 2-1 victory over Hibs this afternoon that was highlighted by a sensational opening strike from Joel Nouble, a resolute defensive display and no lack of grit, determination and will to win.

Having dominated the hosts in the opening 45 minutes, they conceded a Nohan Kenneh equaliser in the early stages of the second half. That saw a huge momentum swing with the Lions penned inside their own penalty box for large spells but they refused to wilt under the pressure.

And they got their just rewards four minutes from time as Ayo Obileye nodded home a Sean Kelly cross.

It was a display that will win plenty of plaudits and has the Lions sitting on six points from their opening three fixtures.

It also has the gaffer believing they can top their achievements of the 2019/20 campaign when a Lyndon Dykes inspired side were sitting pretty in fifth place before Covid caused an early end to the season.

Martindale said: “It’s a given every week at Livingston that the boys will give us maximum effort.

“We’ve got to squeeze every ounce of effort, energy, intensity and physicality out of the players every single week.

“We can’t go out and buy a game-changer, we need to have 16 game-changers at Livingston. It’s the collective that’s the superstar at Livingston, not the individual.

“I’m going to let the window shut then speak to some of the players to get them tied up to longer deals.

“I think there’s something special happening at Livingston with this group of players.

“That year we had big Lyndon, we finished fifth but I genuinely believe think we’d have finished higher and maybe got into Europe that year if we’d managed to keep the league going.

“That was a special squad of players and I can see that growing by the week with the players I’ve got at the club just now.”
