A 90th minute equaliser denied St Johnstone three points on the road.
Glenn Middleton came off the bench to nod in the second half opener before Jack Fitzwater levelled late in the day.
The Perth side, due to results elsewhere, look set to finish the campaign in the relegation play-off spot.
Callum Davidson’s men now sit six points ahead of basement boys Dundee with only two games remaining. Saints’ goal difference is seven better off.
Davidson had hinted at changes following last week’s disappointing performance and result against St Mirren.
The Perth manager opted for three with Dan Cleary, Cammy MacPherson and Stevie May all getting the nod.
Dropping out of the team and onto the bench were Tom Sang, Ali Crawford and Nadir Ciftci.
Imperative was that Saints started this game with intensity and energy which, certainly last week, had been absent.
It was a clever start when, after just 21 seconds, a neat move sent Melker Hallberg clear down the right flank.
His cut-back picked out on-the-move Callum Hendry who clipped over the crossbar from a promising position.
Not long after May was suddenly embarking - successfully - on a lung-bursting run from his own half.
The 29-year-old eventually reached the edge of the box before cutting onto his right foot and going for glory.
His attempt was low and on target but never looked like seriously troubling goalkeeper Ivan Konovalov.
Livingston, too, had brief sights of goal with an Odin Bailey shot deflected behind for a corner and then Andrew Shinnie firing high and wide.
May continued to cause problems with his efficient pressing and weaving runs in behind. He went close to an opener in 37 minutes with a shot from the edge of the box but it drifted the wrong side of the post.
Certainly, Saints had offered more than the previous week.
The best chance of the game, however, fell for the hosts with 55 minutes on the clock when Ayo Obileye’s long ball over the top caught the Perth rearguard out and sent Bailey racing through on goal.
Zander Clark got his angles spot on to make a very smart stop with an outstretched right boot.
Soon Callum Booth’s afternoon was over - he appeared injured - with James Brown the replacement.
Both teams continued to battle with neither able to gain the upper hand.
Livingston substitute Alan Forrest almost broke the deadlock with a curler effort. Again, it drifted wide.
A piece of real quality was going to be needed and it arrived in the 67th minute from the boot of Brown.
His delicious back post cross after receiving a Shaun Rooney pass was just perfect for Middleton, not long off the bench, to nod home before celebrating with the Perth support.
That looked to be that but Fitzwater popped up in the 90th minute to nudge over the line after Scott Pittman’s front post header had been well saved by Clark.
Incredibly, Saints could’ve netted a winner deep in stoppage time when Hendry raced in on goal at a tight angle but Konovalov saved.
