Living near HMP Nottingham in Sherwood is the 'perfect place to raise children' neighbours agree

People living in Sherwood are delighted with the area and have listed the many good things about being a resident there. Many people have agreed that it’s the “perfect place to raise children.”

The shops, the people, the chippies, the activities and how there’s “always something to do” are among the reasons people love living in NG5.

Near Nottingham Prison on Perry Road in Sherwood, people have spoken about the area saying that for the most part, it’s very quiet except of course, at rush hour. “I have two boys and I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else. We love taking walks down to Woodthorpe Park, looking around the charity shops in Sherwood and when I can’t be bothered to cook, Captain Cod is our local chippy.”

The nurse continued and said: “At rush hour, just like anywhere else is when the area gets a bit rowdy but apart from that, I have no complaints.”

One resident has lived in Sherwood for over 50 years. Speaking about their friendly neighbours and how the area has changed over the years is Molly Anderson, 85.

Molly, who is retired, likes to spend her time walking, dancing and gardening. She said: “It’s very quiet around here but I’ve never had any problems living near the prison. Many, many years ago we had problems with noise at the prison, you could hear them shouting but most of the time, I was working.”

Molly, who has 2 children with her late husband, used to work at a local school in Sherwood. Before living in the area, she lived on the Robin Hood Chase in St Ann’s.

Molly continued and said: “There’s a lot of people who have left the area but there’s some that have lived there for donkeys. I love my neigbours, they help me with anything and the girl across the road, she's lovely."

Speaking about weird things remembered over the years, Molly recalled one incident and said: “I remember years ago neighbours had found a dead sheep on the road. I didn’t get involved! But I do remember that.

“My son was 2 when we moved to Sherwood and he’s 54 now. With raising children here, I’ve had no problems whatsoever.”

Joe Hall, 36 also lives in the area. Joe likes walking his dog on Woodthorpe Park and sometimes takes a stroll to Arnot Hill Park.

Speaking of the area, the accountant said: “Sherwood's great. I really like the area, I grew up not too far from Arnold but in Sherwood, there’s always something to do. My wife's always telling me about things that are going on.

“The other day, I think there was something going on at the Methodist Church and we’ve got the Woodthorpe Park Fair that I saw being set up the other day.”

Joe explained why he thinks others like the area and said: “I think the variety is what draws people into Sherwood. We have parks, shops, restaurants and good schools, what more could you ask for?”
