Livid demolition boss threatens to fill in bank after £36,000 'vanishes' from account

The boss of a demolition firm threatened to fill in the entrance of a bank with concrete blocks when he was displeased with staff who could not find his missing £36,000.

Reg Daldry claims he logged into his NatWest banking app and found £36,000 had disappeared.

When he visited a nearby branch he demanded answers and refused to leave which resulted in police being called.

The 45-year-old eventually left of his own accord - but only after warning he would return with his forklift the following day to block in the entrance.

He then emailed NatWest's CEO with his ultimatum and claims his money landed back in his account four hours later.

Reg said: “I went into the branch and said I wanted to know where my money was. I was completing on a house on Friday and I needed it for stamp duty.

"If I didn't complete on it, I needed to pay a penalty to the loan company, which is £37,500 and I said I wouldn't be liable for it.

"They told me there was nothing they could tell me and I said 'that's bol****s'. I hadn't given them the authority to take it.

"I said I wouldn't leave the branch until I got an answer. They phoned head office and said they'd been told to tell me they knew nothing.

"They called the police because I refused to move. The police came and I told them I knew my rights, it was a civil matter and not a criminal matter.

"There was nothing they could do to move me on and that was that. We stood there for 40 minutes and the police were inside.

"I said I wasn't moving until I got an answer.

"In the end, they told me I had to go because I was 'kicking up a stink'. I said 'wouldn't you kick up a stink if someone had taken £36,000 of your money?.’”

A NatWest spokesperson said: "Like all UK regulated banking institutions, NatWest is subject to legal and regulatory requirements, and we treat compliance with them as a matter of priority.

"This may mean NatWest is required to delay or refuse to act on a customer's instructions, and/or suspend or restrict a customer's accounts and/or services.

"The bank does not make any comments on the specifics of this case."

A Gloucestershire Constabulary spokesperson said: "We were called to Natwest, St Oswald's Retail Park in Gloucester, shortly after 3.30pm last Wednesday (7 December) with a report a man was blocking the exit to the building.
