Mindless vandals are ‘putting lives at risk’ after targeting bus stops in Dundee.
The thugs have damaged a number of shelters in the city centre, leaving electrical wires exposed in one instance.
There are now fears that it's only a matter of time before someone gets seriously hurt following the vandalism near the Wellgate and in Albert Street.
City Centre councillor Lynne Short of the Maryfield Ward commented on the incidents.
She told Dundee Live: “As a bus user myself I was disappointed when getting the bus from the back of the Wellgate last week to see the vandalism on the bus stop.
“This is more than a quick clean up with soap and water and the teams are looking at how to bring it back to its original condition.”
And she added: “More concerning was the interference of electrical components on Albert St. This has now been made safe, however a small child or per could easily have been hurt with exposed electrics.
“When I am out and about I can report these type of things and the drivers of the buses are also being asked to keep an eye out.”
A spokesman for Xplore that operate buses on the routes was quick to slam the vandals.
They also highlighted the fact the shelters are the responsibility of Dundee City Council that carries out all repairs and cleaning.
The spokesperson said: “Xplore Dundee does not own bus stop infrastructure - it is the property of Dundee City Council - but we work closely with our Council colleagues to report any damage or graffiti that our drivers see in passing.
“Very soon, we'll be working together to restore the provision of printed timetable displays at bus stops, and damaged parts will be replaced as part of that process.
“Bus stops are the first and last part of the passenger experience, so we're keen to see them tidied up and repaired.
“We're also engaging with our 'Safer Travel' partners at DCC and Police Scotland, because a multi-agency effort is needed to identify and curb this sort of behaviour.”
