Liverpool XI vs Sunderland: Salah benched - Starting lineup, confirmed team news, injury latest

Mohamed Salah has been benched again - (London Standard)

Mohamed Salah has not reclaimed his place in Liverpool’s forward line for Sunderland’s visit Anfield tonight.

The Egyptian - due to leave for the Africa Cup of Nations on December 15 - was left on the bench as the Premier League champions arrested their dismal run of form with a win over West Ham at the weekend with Dominik Szoboszlai preferred on the right flank.

Speaking pre-match, Slot said Wirtz, Alexander Isak, and Joe Gomez would not be able to play three full matches in the space of a week. However, after the trio all started at the London Stadium, they all feature from the start once more here.

Szoboszlai could therefore be back on the right, with Wirtz as the No10 and Isak up top.

Gomez starts again after completing the full 90 minutes at West Ham.

Elsewhere, the line-up has picked itself. The go-to midfield pairing of Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch continues, and the backline is unchanged.

Conor Bradley has returned to training for the first time since suffering a muscle injury on international duty in November, but is not expected to be fit before Liverpool visit Leeds at the weekend.

Jeremie Frimpong is yet to return to the first-team fold as he continues his recovery from a hamstring injury, and Giovanni Leoni remains in recovery after undergoing surgery on a torn ACL.

Liverpool XI (4-2-3-1): Alisson; Gomez, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Gravenberch, Szoboszlai, Mac Allister; Wirtz, Gakpo, Isak

Subs: Mamardashvili, Endo, Kerkez, Salah, Chiesa, Jones, Ekitike, Nyoni, Ngumoha

Injured: Bradley, Frimpong, Leoni

Venue: Anfield
