Liverpool's winless run continued as the Reds were beaten 1-0 by Aston Villa in the Women's Super League at Prenton Park.
The hosts fell behind early in the second half when the visitors were awarded a penalty after goalkeeper Rachael Laws was adjudged to have fouled Kirsty Hanson inside the area. Despite protests from the Liverpool players, Rachel Daly converted from the spot to give the Villans the lead inside 57 minutes.
Matt Beard turned to his bench, making four substitutions in the second half. However, Daly's goal proved enough for Villa, with the Reds now having lost five games consecutively for the first time since a run between October and December 2018.
MATCH REPORT: Liverpool handed fifth straight defeat after Aston Villa penalty
Rachael Laws 6
The Liverpool goalkeeper made an excellent save from Alisha Lehmann to keep the score level going into the break. However, she conceded what turned out out to be the winning penalty after fouling Kirsty Hanson.
Emma Koivisto 7
One of Liverpool's brightest players. A constant threat down the left-hand side and saw her shot curl just wide of the post in the first half.
Taylor Hinds 6
Did okay defensively but failed to exhibit her usual attacking prowess. Subbed.
Gilly Flaherty 6
Made some excellent clearances in the first half but missed the run of Kirsty Hampson that led to Laws conceding the penalty.
Jasmine Matthews 7
Solid in the middle of the park and saw her shot deflected wide in the first half. Subbed.
Megan Campbell 6
Long throw-ins caused problems for the Villa defence but almost played Liverpool into trouble with a poor pass late on.
Niamh Fahey 6
Solid at the back for most of the game but, like Flaherty, left Laws exposed when Hanson was through.
Katie Stengel 6
Worked really hard and was Liverpool's best attacking player but had few clear-cut opportunities. Probably should have done better when she fired over from close range in the second half.
Yana Daniels 6
A couple of bright moments but for the most part struggled to create chances going forward. Subbed.
Rachel Furness 7
Brought in for the injured Ceri Holland and was one of Liverpool's better players. Broke up play and started attacks from the middle of the park. Subbed.
Melissa Lawley 6
As with Daniels, Lawley struggled to carve out too many openings going forwards. Subbed.
SUBSTITUTES
Shanice van de Sanden 6
Fired in a decent cross and stretched the Villa defence with her pace but still not back to her best after an injury lay off.
Missy Bo Kearns 6
Came off the bench after injury concerns during the week. Made herself busy in the centre of the park and dragged a shot wide.
