Liverpool were understood to be 'actively in the race' to sign Norwegian wonderkid Andreas Schjelderup before the talented youngster opted to join Benfica in the summer.
The Reds were reportedly in 'concrete talks' with Schjelderup ahead of a move that would take place in June, but a £12.5 million switch is being made to Portugal, according to TV2.
Schjelderup has put clubs in Europe on red alert after scoring 10 goals in 17 games for Nordsjaelland so far this season.

It isn't the first time the 18-year-old has chosen not to move to Liverpool as the Reds came calling in the summer of 2020 when some of Europe's top academies were looking at the youngster.
Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano reported: "Understand Liverpool were actively in the race to sign this gem in June 2023, concrete talks. Andreas was tempted but decided for Benfica immediately as best step. Another Norwegian did something similar with BVB."
