Liverpool weather: Met Office says arctic blast will see wintry showers hit

Last week may have been warmer than average in March but this week is colder than average.

The cooler and unsettled weather is set to continue over the weekend, with wintry showers bringing snow to some areas. The Met Office predict that a cold Arctic maritime airmass, pushing south, will bring morning frosts and bitter conditions in the next few days.

Liverpool will be cold and frosty on Friday, April 1, but there will still be sunny spells throughout the day. Scattered showers are expected, with some of these wintry leaving a dust of snow in some places - particularly over the hills.

This will continue into the evening, with sleet and hill snow throughout the night. Come Saturday morning, the weather should be dry but frosty. With low temperatures of -3C in the night.

Saturday will start dry and frosty with some long sunny periods. Isolated showers will develop for the afternoon, these wintry over the highest ground. The same is forecast for Sunday with bright spells throughout the day, but primarily cold and breezy.

Temperatures will gradually recover to near-average into the start of next week but for now the cooler weather is here to stay. Met Office Chief Meteorologist Steve Ramsdale said: "As cold air continues to be drawn down from the north there is the potential for wintry showers to affect almost any area of the UK.

"Although there’s unlikely to be widespread accumulations of snow there is a risk of some disruption in eastern and southeastern areas. The best of any clear and sunny spells through the rest of this week are likely to be in the south and west of the UK, but it will definitely feel colder than it has over the last week or so."
