Among the many figures that popped out in the annual accounts for Liverpool, one of the most eye catching was that of the Reds' wage bill falling.
In the last of accounts for the 2019/20 season the Reds payroll stood at £325m, making them the second biggest payers in the Premier League. In the five years up to that point there had been a £118m rise (56 per cent) in the wage bill at Anfield, jumping £46m in 2018/19 and £16m in 2019/20.
The accounts published by the Reds on Friday for the 2020/21 financial period showed that for the first time since Fenway Sports Group took over the club in 2010 the wage bill fell having seen enormous growth from the £129m per year figure that it was in 2010/11.
