Liverpool produced a sublime attacking performance to thrash Galatasaray and reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
Trailing 1-0 after defeat in Istanbul in the first leg, Arne Slot’s side were back to their brilliant best in a fluent showing as they powered past their visitors 4-0 at Anfield. The hosts started fast and opened the scoring 25 minutes in via a beautifully-worked corner routine converted by Dominik Szoboszlai – later tipped by Steven Gerrard as a future captain – and should have been further ahead before half time only for Mohamed Salah to miss from the penalty spot.
It could have become a nervy night at that stage but Liverpool surged away with three goals in 10 minutes. Hugo Ekitike and Ryan Gravenberch took them ahead in the tie before Salah atoned for his penalty miss with a fine curling finish – his 50th Champions League goal.
But the forward asked to be brought off before full-time, raising doubts ahead of Liverpool’s trip to Brighton on Saturday, and Slot said: “Injury-wise, he was asking for a substitution, not because he thought he had scored enough, but that he felt something, so let's see where he is for the weekend.”
But a rematch with defending champions Paris Saint-Germain, who knocked Liverpool out of last year’s competition, awaits. Follow all of the latest from Anfield with our live blog below:

Virgil van Dijk reveals the big ‘frustration’ behind Liverpool’s season
12:03 , Richard JollyVirgil van Dijk has revealed the frustration in the Liverpool dressing room at their inconsistency this season.
Liverpool produced one of their best performances of the campaign to have 32 shots as they beat Galatasaray 4-0 and advance to the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
They have also beaten Real and Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan and Arsenal so far, but they have lost to bottom club Wolves and drew on Sunday with out-of-form Tottenham.
And Van Dijk said: “I think occasionally we have been showing and playing good games but not consistently and on a regular basis and it’s been frustrating for all of us and for the fans as well.”

Galatasaray forward suffers bizarre injury in Champions League clash with Liverpool
10:01 , Jamie BraidwoodGalatasaray forward Noa Lang suffered a bizarre injury during his side’s Champions League defeat to Liverpool as he was forced off after cutting his thumb on an advertising hoarding.
The substitue forward suffered a nasty injury of his own, though, after tumbling awkwardly beyond the Liverpool goal.
Lang immediately went down in discomfort after attempting to stabilise himself with his right hand, with a number of home players attending to him before medics rushed over to help out.
Last night, Galatasaray confirmed Lang “sustained a serious cut to his right thumb, and it is planned for him to undergo surgery in Liverpool in the coming hours with the participation of our medical team”.

Steven Gerrard urges Arne Slot to keep Dominik Szoboszlai in his ‘proper position’ for Liverpool
09:01 , Jamie BraidwoodFormer Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has urged Arne Slot to keep Dominik Szoboszlai in his “proper position” after the midfielder kick-started the Champions League win over Galatasaray.
“I like his mentality. He's evolved and he's grown a lot since he's become a Liverpool player," said Gerrard on TNT Sports. "We [Liverpool] obviously signed a big talent.
“He's in the prime years of his career. I think Liverpool are going to see the best of him. I hope he stays around for a long time because I think there's a potential captain in there.
“I still think there's another level to him as well. I can see him potentially getting more goals, if he can have a consistent run in that 8/10 position. You can see it tonight; he could have had a hat-trick.
People are going away now talking about his performance because he's exciting and he's entertaining, but he's in his proper position. Keep him in his proper position. Let him flourish."

How Mohamed Salah and a tactical tweak breathed life back into Liverpool’s campaign
08:29 , Richard JollyThere may not be too many ways in which this season is better than last for Liverpool but Arne Slot can at least point to a significant one. Liverpool have gone further in the Champions League, and this was progress in more ways than one.
A quarter-final was booked in emphatic and entertaining fashion. The boos that greeted the final whistle against Tottenham on Sunday were replaced by cheers, the lethargy with which Liverpool have played too often giving way to an energy and intensity. This was frenzied and fast, players and crowd feeding off each other. “There was a great dynamic between the players and fans,” said Slot. “Almost a perfect game.”

Arne Slot looks forward to PSG rematch in Champions League
07:44 , Jamie BraidwoodLiverpool lost on penalties to Paris Saint-Germain in last season’s Champions League last-16, with the French side going on to win the European Cup for the first time.
And Slot said he is looking forward to welcoming the PSG to Anfield again, as well as another trip to the Parc des Princes after last season’s 1-0 win.
“If you go to the latter stages of the Champions League, you know one thing for sure: that you're going to face Paris Saint-Germain because it is an incredible team.
“We've experienced that last season when we faced them. Away from home, a very, very difficult game and here at Anfield... I said tonight we played a perfect game and here at Anfield we played also a fantastic game [against PSG].
“I've said a lot of times how great of a match that was, the best game I've managed in my career – maybe not in the result, but how football should be played.
“Both teams just playing football, just wanting to enjoy the fans, to entertain the fans. We were the only team that brought them to extra-time, the only team that brought them to penalties, but that team has shown this season that they haven't dropped a level.”
Arne Slot hails Mohamed Salah's second-half performance
07:29 , Jamie Braidwood“It says a lot about him that after you miss a penalty just before half-time as that can sometimes be hard for an individual or for a team.
“We have had a lot of setbacks this season, a lot of first halves or second halves where we have created chance after chance after chance without doing justice to how we have performed – so not scoring.
“And then Mo and the team came out in the second half the way they did; he assisted Hugo, a great assist, and then scored a trademark goal that he has scored so many times in this stadium and for this club, cutting inside, finding the corner.
“So that tells you a lot about his mental strength but definitely also of the team, because adversity is something we can definitely talk about in this season.”
Arne Slot offers injury update after Mohamed Salah substitution
07:14 , Jamie BraidwoodArne Slot praised Mohamed Salah’s mentality but confirmed that Liverpool will have to check on his fitness before Saturday’s trip to Brighton.
The Egyptian looked back to his best in the second half of last night’s 4-0 win over Galatasaray but raised concerns when he asked to be brought off.
“Injury-wise, he was asking for a substitution, not because he thought he had scored enough, but that he felt something, so let's see where he is for the weekend,” Slot said.

Arne Slot hails Mohamed Salah mentality after brilliant response to penalty miss
07:00 , Harry Latham-CoyleLiverpool head coach Arne Slot praised the mentality of Mohamed Salah after the forward responded to missing a penalty with an inspired second-half performance in the 4-0 Champions League win over Galatasaray.
The Egypt international, who has had well-publicised issues with the Reds boss, is having his worst season at the club and it seemed his luck was not going to change when he saw Ugurcan Cakir saved his unconvincing spot-kick just before the break after Dominik Szoboszlai had given them the lead.
But the 33-year-old moved up a gear after the break, providing the assist for Hugo Ekitike’s important second goal with the rebound from his half-volley dispatched by Ryan Gravenberch.

“He's in the prime years of his career. I think Liverpool are going to see the best of him. I hope he stays around for a long time because I think there's a potential captain in there. The way he's playing and his consistency and his mentality, you can hear it in his voice. He's straight on to the next game, talking about Brighton. I love that about him. He's flying at the moment. 02:30 , Harry Latham-CoyleHarry Kane became the first English player to hit 50 Champions League goals, scoring twice as Bayern Munich humbled Atalanta again to complete a 10-2 aggregate win.
The Bundesliga giants set up a mouth-watering quarter-final against Real Madrid, following up their 6-1 victory in Bergamo with a 4-1 home success at the Allianz Arena.
Kane hit the first two, a retaken penalty and a brilliantly worked second, to bring up his half-century in 66 games and take his season's tally to 47.

Tottenham have found their fight and Champions League exit might be just what Igor Tudor needs
01:30 , Will CastleFour days after emerging from pointlessness, Igor Tudor is now no longer winless. His interim reign of error at Tottenham is finally finding its purpose, eight days on from the Croatian appearing a complete and utter lost cause.
Spurs are out of the Champions League but akin to fellow relegation candidates Nottingham Forest, there is the fair argument that Europe could be a very unwanted distraction from survival. With Spurs fans in full voice, still in their seats at the full-time whistle, victory on the night feels far more important than defeat in tie.

Barcelona blow away Newcastle in brutal end to Champions League dream
00:30 , Harry Latham-CoyleRobert Lewandowski and Raphinha killed off Newcastle's Champions League dream as Barcelona survived a first-half fright to book a quarter-final place in style.
The 37-year-old Poland international hit the Magpies with a quick-fire double before the Brazilian struck to seal a 7-2 win on the night - a 13th on the trot since their return to the Nou Camp - and an 8-3 aggregate victory on a night when Eddie Howe's side imploded.
Anthony Elanga's first-half brace had cancelled out Raphinha's early opener and Marc Bernal's free-header, but Lamine Yamal's stoppage-time penalty opened the floodgates with Fermin Lopez, Lewandowski and Raphinha again doing the damage.

Arsenal ensured the unprecedented six English sides competing in this stage would not suffer a humiliating wipeout as they breezed past Bayer Leverkusen in their must-win second leg at the Emirates on Tuesday.
Stunning strikes from Eberechi Eze and Declan Rice proved the difference with Arsenal running out 3-1 winners on aggregate, setting up a tie with Sporting CP who recovered a three-goal first-leg deficit to win 5-0 on the night against Bodo/Glimt, ending the Norwegian side’s fairytale run.

The Liverpool frenzy that may have altered their Champions League fate – as revenge mission against PSG awaits
Wednesday 18 March 2026 22:30 , Richard Jolly at AnfieldThere may not be too many ways in which this season is better than last for Liverpool but Arne Slot can at least point to a significant one. Liverpool have gone further in the Champions League, and this was progress in more ways than one.

This was frenzied and fast, players and crowd feeding off each other. For Slot, it was a response when the scrutiny upon him had heightened. The Dutchman switched tactics, to something of a 4-4-2, and the team changed tack. This was much better. This was one of his finest Anfield nights of the campaign.

Hugo Ekitike reacts to LIverpool's win
Wednesday 18 March 2026 22:17 , Harry Latham-Coyle"I think we deserve to be here," said Ekitike to TNT Sports. "Really happy. I think we did a great job tonight. We could have won 10-0. We missed a few chances but we still did a good job. We can be proud of us tonight and we can look forward to the quarter-final.
"I think we needed this. We missed a few chances at the end of the first half. I had my chances. I could have scored more tonight to be honest. Everybody did a great job; ran for each other and that's why we won."
On Mohamed Salah: "He's a legend. Sometimes people say that he has had a difficult season, but for players like us, who have been watching him for years, he's important. Tonight, he had many chances but he still had the mindset to give me a great ball to score. I'm really happy for him. He deserves it. We need to do that every game now."

Liverpool set up Paris Saint-Germain clash
Wednesday 18 March 2026 22:00 , Richard Jolly at AnfieldEmphatic and entertaining, job done and done well for Liverpool. That was more like it in plenty of ways, even if they were aided by Galatasaray being dismal. Now it is PSG and a rematch after last year.

FULL TIME: Liverpool 4-0 Galatasaray (4-1 agg.)

Liverpool 4-0 Galatasaray, 90 + 4 minutes
Wednesday 18 March 2026 21:56 , Harry Latham-CoyleFederico Chiesa goes hunting for a late goal, but can’t force his shot between the tangled limbs of a couple of Galatasaray defenders.
Liverpool 4-0 Galatasaray, 90 + 2 minutes
Wednesday 18 March 2026 21:54 , Harry Latham-CoyleWe shouldn’t underestimate just how good Liverpool have been tonight. After a tricky week, this has been just the tonic, never allowing the visitors to settle or build any sort of attacking fluency. They’ve had 26 shots to Galatasaray’s two, which rather tells the story.
RULED OUT! Liverpool 4-0 Galatasaray, 90 minutes
Wednesday 18 March 2026 21:51 , Harry Latham-CoyleLiverpool have a fifth...or not! Alexis Mac Allister prods home but the referee whistles for an apparent foul on the goalkeeper from Virgil van Dijk. Hmm...I’m not sure there was too much in that, but Van Dijk did make contact as he contested for the ball. The VAR has a quick look and sticks with the on-field call.

Liverpool 4-0 Galatasaray, 85 minutes
Wednesday 18 March 2026 21:47 , Harry Latham-CoyleWe’re into the final five minutes at Anfield - in theory, at least. There’ll be plenty of stoppage time after that Noa Lang injury.
Liverpool 4-0 Galatasaray, 81 minutes
Wednesday 18 March 2026 21:43 , Richard Jolly at AnfieldIt was a bit odd that, with Galatasaray requiring goals, Mauro Icardi had not come on earlier. Even when he did, it was only because Noa Lang was stretchered off. It has been a bad night in every respect for the Turkish champions.

Liverpool 4-0 Galatasaray, 74 minutes

Liverpool 4-0 Galatasaray, 68 minutes
Wednesday 18 March 2026 21:29 , Harry Latham-CoyleAlmost five! This is some second half performance from Liverpool. A simply sublime diagonal switch of play from Ryan Gravenberch frees Hugo Ekitike, who tees up Mohamed Salah to rattle the crossbar.
Liverpool reload and Alexis Mac Allister’s shot is palmed by Ugurcan Cakir on to the head of Ekitike, who can’t keep his header down. On to the roof of the net.
Liverpool 4-0 Galatasaray, 64 minutes
Wednesday 18 March 2026 21:24 , Harry Latham-CoyleThe giddy Liverpool fans serenade both Mohamed Salah and Steven Gerrard, unsure quite what to do with themselves. There’ll be no boos tonight.
GOAL! LIVERPOOL 4-0 Galatasaray (Mohamed Salah, 62 minutes)
Wednesday 18 March 2026 21:24 , Harry Latham-CoyleThe best of the lot! 50 goals in the Champions League for Mohamed Salah, and the milestone is brought up in some style!
Liverpool can book their tickets to Paris - this is an absolute beaut. Salah produces a swift exchange of flicks with Florian Wirtz as he cuts in on that left peg of his, before curling wonderfully into the far corner with the slightest of touches off the goalkeeper’s fingertips. 4-0 on the night, 4-1 on aggregate, and a meeting with PSG awaits.

Liverpool 3-0 Galatasaray, 60 minutes
Wednesday 18 March 2026 21:22 , Harry Latham-CoyleGalatasaray bring on Yunus Akgun for Lucas Torreira in midfield. They’ve got to go for it - but look so, so, so open through midfield, as they have done for much of the night.

GOAL! LIVERPOOL 3-0 Galatasaray (Ryan Gravenberch, 54 minutes)
Wednesday 18 March 2026 21:16 , Harry Latham-CoyleCan they ever? That’s three and Liverpool move ever closer to the Champions League quarter-finals!
Galatasaray are being run ragged. A cute ball from Florian Wirtz is lashed goalwards by Mohamed Salah, and though Ugurcan Cakir bats that effort away, he can do nothing about Ryan Gravenberch’s follow-up.
GOAL! LIVERPOOL 2-0 Galatasaray (Hugo Ekitike, 52 minutes)
Wednesday 18 March 2026 21:13 , Harry Latham-CoyleThis time it is in! Liverpool finally have their second - and the lead in the tie!
You cannot say it has been undeserved. It’s a beautiful, flowing move that sweeps between helpless Galatasaray players as if they are training dummies. A brilliant first time ball from Alexis Mac Allister finds Mohamed Salah, who also hits his pass immediately to tee up Hugo Ekitike to apply the finishing touches.
Second half...
Wednesday 18 March 2026 21:07 , Harry Latham-CoyleChanges at half time for the visitors, as we might have expected. Common sense has prevailed with Victor Osimhen replaced by Noa Lang, while Leroy Sane is on for Sacha Boey. Roland Sallai will slide back on to the right of defence, one would assume.
Back underway.
HT: Liverpool 1-0 Galatasaray
Wednesday 18 March 2026 20:57 , Richard Jolly at AnfieldA terrific first half for Liverpool in many respects. Except, arguably, the scoreline. They really should have got a second goal, with Salah's penalty the biggest missed opportunity. They are a team who struggle to make it 2-0 - as they showed against Spurs on Sunday.

Wednesday 18 March 2026 20:51 , Harry Latham-CoyleHow are Liverpool not further ahead? Ugurcan Cakir makes a superb double stop to keep the hosts out again.
Wow. Galatasaray hanging in there. That’ll be that for the first half.
SAVED! Liverpool 1-0 Galatasaray, 45 + 4 minutes
Wednesday 18 March 2026 20:50 , Harry Latham-CoyleMohamed Salah...SAVED! A poor penalty, by his standards, trying to clip it down the middle but getting neither height nor direction right. It bends into the shin of the goalkeeper as he dives to his left - all square in the tie we remain.

PENALTY! Liverpool 1-0 Galatasaray, 45 + 2 minutes
Wednesday 18 March 2026 20:48 , Harry Latham-CoyleUp go Liverpool in appeal and after a long think about it, the referee points to the spot!
Ismail Jakobs was a little late on Dominik Szoboszlai, and there looked to be contact. Penalty given!
The story of Liverpool's season
Wednesday 18 March 2026 20:29 , Richard Jolly at AnfieldThe (good) story of Liverpool's season. Yet again, it is Dominik Szoboszlai. He has now been directly involved in nine Champions League goals this season - scoring five, assisting four - despite spending some of the campaign at right-back.

GOAL! LIVERPOOL 1-0 Galatasaray (Dominik Szoboszlai, 25 minutes)
Wednesday 18 March 2026 20:27 , Harry Latham-CoyleAnd that is a delicious set-piece routine to level the tie!
Gorgeous, gorgeous stuff from Liverpool, straight from the training ground. Galatasaray appeal for a foul but there is nothing given on the field - it looked like Ibrahima Konate played a blocking role in a choreographed corner. Alexis Mac Allister drills it back towards the penalty spot with Dominik Szboszlai arriving late to meet it oh-so-sweetly on his left foot, guiding it into the corner.
The VAR is happy - goal stands!

A rare fast start for Liverpool
Wednesday 18 March 2026 20:18 , Richard Jolly at AnfieldLiverpool have made too many slow starts this season. At least they have begun today at a high pace and with plenty of energy, even if it is yet to yield clear-cut chances.

Liverpool 0-0 Galatasaray, 12 minutes
Wednesday 18 March 2026 20:13 , Harry Latham-CoyleThis is the sort of start Arne Slot would have wanted. Liverpool are showing plenty of bite, and a bit of attacking invention - Hugo Ekitike’s shot does not have the requisite power to truly test Ugurcan Cakir, though.
Liverpool 0-0 Galatasaray, 2 minutes
Wednesday 18 March 2026 20:03 , Harry Latham-CoyleRoland Sallai has begun up on the right for Galatasaray - he’s up against Hungary teammate Dominik Szoboszlai tonight.
Richard Jolly is our man at Anfield, and writes: “The Galatasaray players have just gone over to applaud fans in the Kenny Dalglish Stand. Officially, there are no Galatasaray fans here. Unofficially, there do seem to be some - along with some white shirts and scarves - there.”
KICK OFF!
Wednesday 18 March 2026 20:00 , Harry Latham-CoyleRight, here we go - Galatasaray have beaten Liverpool twice this season but never here, and they’ll have to do without any travelling support.
The action is underway.
