Liverpool are stepping up their search for a new midfielder as Jurgen Klopp bids to turn around his side's stuttering season.
They have already spent £40million on Cody Gapko, who arrived at the start of the window from PSV Eindhoven. But midfield remains an area of weakness in Klopp's squad, one which the German is hoping to address in this month's transfer window.
But the Liverpool boss is facing increasing challenges in landing a target to boost his options. Here, Mirror Football rounds up all the latest Liverpool transfer news as they search for their second signing of the window.
Atalanta make Koopmeiners decision
Atalanta director Tony D'Amico has hinted that Atalanta will refuse to sell Teu Koopmeiners this winter. Koopmeiners has emerged as a target for Liverpool as they search for additions to midfield.
He has scored five goals in 17 games so far this term, amid what has been a disappointing campaign for the Bergamaschi. But D'Amico has now played down the chances of the Dutchman departing the Serie A side this month.
"There is nothing, surely we are flattered by the interest because it means that we have strong players, but Koopmeiners is an Atalanta player and will remain so," D'Amico told Sky Italia.

Muani move ruled out
Liverpool have hit a fresh roadblock in their bid to bring in another new striker after Eintracht Frankfurt poured cold water on the suggestion they will sell Randal Kolo Muani this month.
The 24-year-old has scored eight goals and notched 11 assists for Frankfurt so far this season. But the club's sporting director Markus Krosche has insisted they will not sell him, even for £88m.
"Yes, that's so!" Krosche told Sky Germany when asked if he would really turn down such a figure. "We have clearly stated that we don‘t want to sell any top performer. No reason for that. That remains the case."
Reds given Bellingham tip
Former Liverpool star Don Hutchison has urged the Reds to offer Naby Keita as part of a swap deal for Jude Bellingham. The Borussia Dortmund star is one of Klopp's top targets, but Liverpool may find themselves financially overpowered in the summer.
“Now it’s panic stations. You have to make sure, you don’t just panic. Even if you can do all the work behind the scenes. Speaking to Jude Bellingham’s mum and dad. Speaking to Dortmund," he told ESPN.
"Speaking to the player. Trying to be cute and offer maybe a Naby Keita to Dortmund, or whatever you see fit. But they have got to make sure that they don’t just panic.”
