Liverpool to mark date of Russia’s ‘full-scale’ invasion with protest

This Friday, one year will have passed since the “full-scale” invasion of Ukraine by Russia.

Since then, thousands of people have been “displaced, killed or lost everything”. In response, Merseyside’s Ukrainian community and local organisations are organising a solidarity protest and freedom parade on Friday, February 24, to call for continued support to the Ukrainian people and "fight back against disinformation".

Mariia Goubernik, one of the organisers of the protest, explained how “today, the country faces ongoing rocket and artillery fire, depleted resources, and terror and attacks against both the military and civilians". Mariia added that for those in Ukraine, "the war did not start in 2022, but has been raging for nine years, since Russia’s invasion of Donbas and the illegal annexation of Crimea".
