Liverpool tipped to sign 'next Romario' with £51m release clause

Reports from Brazil have claimed that Liverpool could be close to making an unexpected signing.

The Reds have already added three players to their squad with Darwin Nunez, Fabio Carvalho and Calvin Ramsay moving to Anfield. Jurgen Klopp moved to bring the trio to Merseyside in the early weeks of the summer, so all three would get a full pre-season with the rest of the squad.

Right-back Ramsay’s arrival from Aberdeen signified the end of Liverpool’s incoming transfer business this summer. Anfield insiders believe with the signings of the aforementioned trio, Liverpool have got what they wanted out of this summer’s market.

However, that hasn’t stopped rumours circulating that Liverpool could do further business. One report from Brazil has suggested a new addition could be on the way.

According to renowned Brazilian TV presenter Milton Neves, Santos youngster Marcos Leonardo is “joining Liverpool”. Neves was speaking on Esporte na Band , after Santos were held to a draw with Corinthians.

Neves is quoted saying: “Corinthians yesterday escaped being defeated by the Santos kids. Marcos Leonardo, who’s going to Liverpool, this guy is the new Romario!”

Leonardo, at the age of 19, has already impressed for the Santos first-team. The young striker already has 12 goals in 31 appearances this term, and 25 in 94 outings in total.

Neves’ claims come a couple of weeks after a claim from another Brazilian outlet about Leonardo. It was reported by South American football pundit Veloso who said that the 19-year-old had already been sold to “an English group”.

Further reports have suggested that Leonardo has a release clause in his contract worth €60million (£51m).
