Liverpool have been hit with another huge injury blow with Andy Robertson now facing a spell on the sidelines as their season lurches towards crisis.
The Reds have won just two of seven matches so far during a campaign that has been ravaged by injury woes - a stark contrast to the previous season where they lost just FOUR of 63 matches.
Jurgen Klopp ’s side have been undermined by a series of problems, with five midfielders ruled out with injury so far as they stumbled badly…culminating in a humiliation in Italy where they were thrashed by Napoli.
The Anfield manager has lost Thiago, Naby Keita, Curtis Jones, skipper Jordan Henderson and Fabio Carvalho at different points in a troublesome campaign, along with the likes of Ibrahima Konate, Diogo Jota and Joel Matip.
And the latest setback came in that embarrassment in Naples, with defender Robertson - such a key influence in Liverpool ’s trophy laden story under Klopp - suffering an injury, which Klopp will detail at his European press conference on Monday afternoon.
That has seen him ruled out of the now massive Champions League showdown with Ajax on Tuesday night, which is a big blow for the Liverpool manager given the size of the game following some poor results.
Reports suggest the injury is not considered too serious by the medical team, but it is bad enough for the Scotland international captain to also be a doubt for the visit to Chelsea at the weekend.
Robertson appeared to struggle at the start of the new season, and some felt that may have been linked to an injury he suffered playing for Scotland against Ireland in the Nations League in June, following an exhausting campaign.
The defender had played on after the Champions League final defeat in Paris, representing his country in the competition, but was then pulled out of the next game against Armenia because of the problem.
Robertson was surprisingly rested by Klopp in the Merseyside derby, after being substituted in his previous four matches before the visit to Goodison Park.
But Klopp at least has an able deputy in Greek international defender Kostas Tskimikas, who will replace the left back against Ajax in a game Liverpool see as a must win.
