Liverpool striker takes 'next step' after impressive scoring run

Liverpool striker Fidel O’Rourke has joined Halifax Town on loan until the end of the season.

The 20-year-old spent the first half of the campaign with Caernarfon Town, scoring seven goals in his 10 appearances for the JD Cymru Premier side before being recalled by the Reds in January.

Making a substitute appearance for Liverpool Under-21s against Crystal Palace following his return, O'Rourke has now departed on loan again after joining National League side Halifax.

“It’s always Liverpool first for me, but if that doesn’t happen, I think another loan, maybe to an English side is the next step,” O’Rourke admitted in an exclusive interview with the ECHO last November. “It’ll be more physical in one of those leagues and another different challenge. Hopefully I can do that.

“There’s no better place to be than Liverpool, especially as a Scouser, supporting the team all my life. I’m learning my trade and the club are spot on looking after me really. With hard work and good fortune, if you carry on at it you will be given your chance. Hopefully I can take it.

“Hopefully I can make it at Liverpool, but if not, I’ll get another loan maybe and then try to get higher and higher in the pecking order and try to do as well as I can whenever I’m playing.”

Halifax currently sit 17th in the table, six points above the relegation zone but seven points off the play-off places. And having shone in Wales, O'Rourke will now be hoping to make a similar impact for The Shaymen and could make his debut away at David Unsworth's Oldham Athletic on Saturday.
