Liverpool under-21s secured a tenth Premier League 2 win of the season after earning a 3-2 away win at Blackburn Rovers on Saturday afternoon.
Goals from Rhys Williams, James Norris and Layton Stewart helped Barry Lewtas' side on their way to three points, a victory which has moved them up to third place in the division standings.
It was Williams who gave the Reds the lead in the 26th minute of the match, heading home past Blackburn goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski following an effective corner routine involving Owen Beck. The hosts responded with a goal of their own five minutes later, though, with Zak Gilsenan being afforded time and space to fire past Harvey Davies after collecting a loose ball from a set-piece.

Liverpool were back in front 10 minutes later after a counter-attack started by Davies saw Melkamu Frauendorf and Lee Jonas combine to great effect before picking out the run of Norris, who was on hand to sweep home inside the penalty area.
Building on their one-goal lead in the 57th minute of the match, Stewart's low, drilled effort proved too problematic for Kaminski to make it 3-1. This marked a fourth consecutive match in which the 20-year-old has been on target and took his goalscoring tally in the league to ten.
As the game petered out, Reds midfielder Tom Hill was summoned from the substitutes bench for some much-needed minutes. The midfielder suffered a nasty ACL injury in September 2020, keeping him out of action for almost 20 months, and he had made only two appearances this season prior to this outing.
Blackburn, who currently occupy one of the two relegation places, ensured there was to be a nervy ending for the away side after Ethan Walker capitalised on a misjudged clearance to punish Davies. Rovers later struck the crossbar from a cross, but Liverpool held out for all three points.
Liverpool U21s: Davies, Jonas, Williams, Olufunwa, Beck, Stephenson, Norris, Clark (Corness, 82), Frauendorf (Miles, 90), Woltman (Hill, 74), Stewart (Musialowski, 90).
