Liverpool Street station ‘evacuated’ and trains halted as police deal with suspect package

London Liverpool Street (Lucy North/PA) - (PA Wire)

Passengers were evacuated from London Liverpool Street station and trains disrupted as police dealt with a suspicious package.

British Transport Police said officers were on patrol at around 7pm when they were alerted by staff on Tuesday.

One passenger wrote on X: “London Liverpool Street station completely evacuated as I was about to hop on the train home. Sirens going off and told to evacuate immediately… it was like something straight out of a war zone!”

In a post on X, Greater Anglia wrote: “Due to the police dealing with an incident at London Liverpool Street some lines are blocked. Train services running to and from this station may be cancelled, delayed or revised. Disruption is expected until further notice. Specific train service alterations are available.”

People reported being evacuated from the station shortly after 6.30pm.

In an update about 7pm, Greater Anglia said: “Following the police dealing with an incident at London Liverpool Street station, all lines have now reopened.

“Train services running to and from this station are returning to normal but some services may still be cancelled, delayed or revised.”

BTP added: “Part of the station was evacuated as a precaution and a cordon put in place. The item was assessed by specialist officers and confirmed to be non-suspicious. The station has now fully reopened.”
