Liverpool star Sadio Mane posts update from hospital after AFCON injury scare

Liverpool forward Sadio Mane has posted an update on his fitness after being forced off in Senegal's win over Cape Verde.

Mane suffered a clash of heads with opposition goalkeeper Vozinha while contending for a high ball during his country’s Round of 16 tie at the Africa Cup of Nations tonight.

The Cape Verde ‘keeper was eventually sent off for the incident, just before the hour mark, after receiving treatment himself.

Despite the impact of the head clash, the Liverpool forward was controversially allowed to continue - and incredibly proved to be the man to open the scoring six minutes later, curling a shot into the top corner.

Shortly after that the 29-year-old went down again holding his head, following a prolonged VAR check to confirm his goal.

Mane was then substituted in the 70th minute after being helped by his team-mates and escorted off the pitch by the Senegalese medical team.

“Sadio had a big shock with the goalkeeper and I haven't heard from him yet, he was dizzy and he is currently in the hospital,” head coach Cisse said after the final whistle, as reported by journalist Adama Ndione.

“We will have news later. I hope he is doing very well.”

Mane has since posted a picture on social media of him alongside Vozinha, with the captions: "Senegal vs Cape Verde in the pitch, in the hospital.

"Everything is fine, thank you all for the messages."

Bamba Dieng, the man who replaced Mane, added to Senegal’s lead as they defeated nine-man Cape Verde 2-0.

It remains to be seen whether the Liverpool forward will be available for his country’s quarter-final tie on Sunday.
