Liverpool star Fabio Carvalho savours Rangers romp as Champions League debut ends in style

FABIO CARVALHO will use Ibrox goal heroes Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino as his Liverpool inspiration after marking his Champions League debut in style against Rangers.

The 20-year-old was handed his first European start by boss Jurgen Klopp on Wednesday night and produced an impressive showing in a comprehensive 7-1 rout in Group A.

Firmino netted twice to cancel out Scott Arfield's opener before Salah stole the show with a six-minute hat-trick that condemned Rangers to a record-breaking defeat on home soil.

The Reds have now turned their attentions to the Premier League showdown with Manchester City and Carvalho is determined to use his Ibrox outing as the foundation for his campaign.

Carvalho said: "It was a good night. We needed it as a team and for me personally as well I needed that for my confidence. We got the three points and what a way to get the three points.

"It’s the best thing to be able to go in every day at the AXA and train with the best players in the world. That’s what I’m trying to emulate and that’s what I’m trying to add to my game.

"Seeing them every day and just learning from the best, that’s what I’m here for and hopefully one day I’ll be doing what they are doing.

"We needed that [win]. Going into Sunday is a big game and we need to focus on that.

"The result went our way today and what a way to get the win, but our focus is on Sunday now and we can’t be dwelling on this game.

"Obviously, we know what we [have] done well and we know what we can improve on, and the result today will give us confidence for Sunday.

"We have big players who perform on the highest stages. It’s a big game so we have the big players for it.

"It’s a big game, a big occasion, and I’m sure if we give it our all and we work hard a good result will come our way."
