Liverpool star Alisson edging closer to exit, with European giant in talks: report

Alisson of Liverpool gestures during the Premier League match between Brentford and Liverpool at the Gtech Community Stadium in London, United Kingdom on 2 January, 2023.

With Liverpool pair Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson already confirming their summer exits, the Reds are already gearing up for a summer of change at Anfield.

The upcoming departures of these latest two Jurgen Klopp-era stalwarts come as the squad continues to evolve under Arne Slot and the club may have to brace for another emotional farewell in the summer.

Goalkeeper Alisson has been a key part of Liverpool’s success since his 2018 arrival, but reports in Italy suggest that he could be in the final weeks of his Anfield spell.

The 33-year-old has been sidelined with a muscle injury in recent weeks, but has still been a key player for Slot this season, with the club reportedly triggering a one-year contract extension that will run until the summer of 2027 and had dampened speculation over a potential summer move amid interest from Juventus and Inter Milan.

However, a report from Gazzetta dello Sport claimed that Juve will be in the market for a goalkeeper this summer and Alisson remains high on their wish list.

With Michele Di Gregorio set to leave the Turin side at the end of the season, Juventus are said to have made contact with Alisson’s representatives and are ‘growing in confidence’ about a move for the 76-time Brazil international.

The report adds that Alisson himself is keen on a move, not least because he worked with current Juve boss Luciano Spalletti during his time at Roma.

Added into the mix is also the fact that Alisson reportedly believes that his Anfield team-mate Giorgi Mamardashvili is being readied to become Liverpool’s first-choice goalkeeper next season.

The Georgian, who arrived on Merseyside last summer, a year after a £25million deal was sealed with Valencia for his services, is currently deputising for the injured Alisson. The 25-year-old is set to wear the gloves for the Champions League quarter-final second leg against Paris Saint-Germain at Anfield tomorrow evening.

It is also reported that Juventus are pondering offering Alisson a three-year deal and the offer of regular first-team football.

In FourFourTwo’s view, Liverpool’s signing of Mamardashvili was very much done in mind with the Georgia international being Alisson’s long-term successor at Anfield.

While Alisson still has plenty to offer - and was ranked at No.35 in FourFourTwo’s list of the planet’s best players back in December - Liverpool have been working to reduce the age of their squad and plan for the future over the past couple of transfer windows.

Alisson is valued at €17million on Transfermarkt and if Liverpool are able to bring in a fee in that ballpark, it could well be a move that suits all parties - even if it’s another emotional exit for the Reds faithful.
