Liverpool set for late drama as supercomputer predicts final Premier League standings

A supercomputer has attempted to predict Liverpool’s final Premier League position for this season.

The Reds are currently at the start of the final international break of the campaign, as they rest up ahead of the season’s run-in. Jurgen Klopp’s side are currently in sixth place in the table and face a difficult task to climb into the top four.

Liverpool were not in Premier League action at the weekend due to their clash against Fulham being postponed, with the London club facing Manchester United in the FA Cup.

There are still 12 matches left to play this season as the Reds try to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

Respected statistics and analysis website FiveThirtyEight has forecast the final standings in the Premier League this season, based on a complex model which takes into account a host of factors. They have crunched their numbers and have predicted that Liverpool will not finish in the top four.

According to their prediction, Liverpool will finish in fifth place and two points outside the top four. Newcastle are the club who are tipped to occupy fourth spot with 66 points, while the Reds are adrift with 64 points.

The numbers go a step further, with Liverpool apparently having a 29% chance of finishing in the top four. However, Newcastle have the edge here, too, with a 44% chance of qualifying for the Champions League.

Tottenham Hotspur also miss out on the top four with the prediction, finishing in sixth place and level on 64 points with Liverpool. The Reds have the edge in the prediction due to a superior goal difference, while Spurs also only have a 25% chance of qualifying for Europe’s elite cup competition.
