Liverpool 'set aside cash for January deal' as four transfer 'targets' emerge

Liverpool have 'set aside' the funds to spend big in the January transfer window, if recent reports are anything to go by.

Football Insider claims owners Fenway Sports Group would be 'willing' to fund a big-money move should they identify the right player. Liverpool spent big over the summer on a potential club-record move for Benfica striker Darwin Nunez, but opted against signing any long-term midfield reinforcements.

The Reds have been linked with an array of talent in recent weeks, so we've taken a look at just some of the names Liverpool could move for should they look to the transfer market in January.

Jude Bellingham

Liverpool's interest in Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham is well documented, with a number of top European clubs prepared to battle it out for his signature. But any potential deal will likely be complex given the huge figures involved and the competition from elsewhere.

A recent report from The Athletic suggests Dortmund's resolve will likely be tested in the summer of 2023 and Liverpool are likely to be in the mix - along with Chelsea, Manchester City, Real Madrid and Manchester United.

Matheus Nunes

Wolves midfielder Matheus Nunes is another that was heavily linked with a move to Merseyside over the summer. He did move to the Premier League, joining the Midlands club from Sporting Lisbon in a club-record move.

A recent report from the Sunday Mirror, the 24-year-old 'delayed' his move to Molineux in hope Liverpool or Manchester City would make their move. However, it wasn't to be but the article claims both clubs maintain an interest in the player.

It is, unlikely, Wolves would sanction a move for Nunes anytime soon given they smashed their transfer record to sign him. He's under contract until 2027 and they will be in no rush to part ways with him.

Enzo Fernandez

Sky Sports claimed in August Argentina international Enzo Fernandez was among the players Liverpool had been watching, but Benfica made the move and landed him this summer. Portuguese outlet O Jogo recently suggested the Reds' interest hasn't subsided as they weigh up a potential move in the future.

The report does, however, suggest Fernandez has a €120m (£108m) release clause in the contract he signed only a few months ago.

Nicolo Barella

Liverpool were one of a number of clubs linked with Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella in the transfer window. Italian outlet Calciomercato recently claimed the Serie A giants could be forced to part ways with the player in January due to financial reasons.

Barella, Lautaro Martinez and defender Alessandro Bastoni are among the 'big' stars Inter could reportedly look to sell in the next transfer window in order to raise funds.
