Liverpool sent Inter Milan warning as Ian Rush makes Champions League prediction

Liverpool legend Ian Rush has rated the team's chances of getting past Inter Milan in the Champions League at 60 per cent.

The Reds have been handed a tricky encounter in the last 16, as they gear up to face the Italian champions in the knockout stages.

Liverpool coasted through their group, winning all six games, and will now want to carry that momentum into the next phase of the competition.

While the Inter side they will face doesn't quite measure up to the great sides managed by the likes of Roberto Mancini and Jose Mourinho, they remain one of the best teams in Italy.

Even after losing manager Antonio Conte and some star players in Romelu Lukaku and Achraf Hakimi in the summer, they are just two points back on their city rivals AC Milan at the summit of the Italian top flight.

Speaking to Tuttosport (h/t Football Italia ), Rush - who played for Inter's arch rivals Juventus - said he thinks the game will be close as a result.

"Inter are the peak of Italian football right now, in the last round of Serie A they picked up a good draw away to Napoli," he said.

"Tomorrow evening will be a hard-fought match, so despite the fact Liverpool are in good form, it won’t be easy for the Reds.

"Considering recent results, Liverpool still have to be the favourites. We know anything can happen in football, but over two legs, I’d say Jurgen Klopp ’s lads have a 60 per cent chance of qualifying."

Liverpool's all-time top scorer added he thinks the match may be defined by a couple of elite forwards - Mohamed Salah for the Reds and Edin Dzeko for the Nerazzurri.

"Dzeko scored against Napoli and is in good shape, so I expect him to be the standout for Inter," he continued. "Lautaro Martinez does well too and obviously Alexis Sanchez, we can’t forget his past in England and how that’ll make him even more eager to do well.

"For Liverpool, Mohamed Salah has quality and – like Sanchez – wants to show Italian fans what he can really do, as he played for Fiorentina and Roma before coming to England."

Rush predicted that the clash at the San Siro will finish as a score draw, with Liverpool eventually prevailing at Anfield.
