Liverpool 'send scouts' to watch defender who has £40m release clause

Liverpool have reportedly made their interest known regarding Sporting Lisbon defender Goncalo Inacio.

The Reds have previously been linked with a move for the centre-back, along with a host of other defenders. RB Leipzig’s Josko Gvardiol and Benfica’s Antonio Silva have also been credited as possible targets for Liverpool in recent weeks.

Midfield has been the area of the pitch that the majority of transfer rumours have focused on when it comes to Liverpool over the last few months. However, reports from Portugal claim that the Reds are looking for a new defender.

According to Correio da Manhã, Liverpool have sent scouts to watch Inacio in action for Sporting. It’s been claimed that the Reds had officials in attendance to see the centre-back in action on Sunday against Porto in the Primeira Liga clash.

Inacio has been linked with a host of other clubs across Europe, and has impressed with his performances for Sporting. The 21-year-old is reported to have a €45m (£40m) release clause in his contract.

The report says that Liverpool could make a move to sign Inacio at the end of the season. It has been reported in the article that Sporting’s financial situation, with a lack of certainty of Champions League football for next season, could force them into selling Inacio in the summer.
