On Monday night Darwin Nunez has become the eighth different Liverpool player to be shown a red card since Jurgen Klopp became the club's manager, with nine shown in total.
The Uruguayan forward's mindless headbutt on Crystal Palace defender Joachim Andersen saw him receive his marching orders while the Reds were 1-0 down, with Klopp's side indebted to a superb equaliser from Luis Diaz to give them a point.
Klopp was quick to condemn the forward's behaviour, claiming that he could have no excuses for the decision.
That hasn't always been the case down the years though, with the Reds boss reacting fairly differently to the rare occasions his side have seen red.
Here, Mirror Football looks at all nine red cards that Liverpool have received since Klopp became manager.

James Milner v Crystal Palace – March 2016
Veteran squad player James Milner became the first player to be sent off under Klopp's management back in March 2016. Milner was handed two yellow cards after fouling Palace winger Wilfred Zaha.
Joe Ledley had given Palace the lead by that point, but Roberto Firmino and Christian Benteke scored after Milner's red to claim all three points. Klopp was left philosophical after Milner's sending off, admitting he had been chasing the game.
“We thought we could be a bit more attacking on the right wing with Milner instead of Jon Flanagan. And then I think the first thing that happened was we lost the ball and Milly made his challenge to get his second yellow. These things happen," he said.
Brad Smith v Swansea – May 2016
Perhaps the only memorable part of Brad Smith's short-lived Liverpool career was the red card he received against Swansea City two months after Milner's red. Like Milner, Smith was sent off after picking up two yellow cards for fouls against Wayne Routledge.
The Australian received his matching orders with 14 minutes to go, by which time the Swans were already 3-1 up. A double from Andre Ayew and Jack Cork's strike saw the hosts claim all three points, though Klopp highlighted his side's poor performance for their defeat, rather than Smith's red card.
“The first two goals were too easy, too simple for Swansea. In the end, we deserved the defeat and they deserved the win, but a big, big part of this result was our performance. We have to accept this, recover, prepare again and play much better,” he said.
Sadio Mane v Manchester City – September 2017
While Klopp had no problems with the first two red cards, Sadio Mane's sending off against Manchester City left the Liverpool boss furious. The Reds had gone a goal down when Mane collided with Ederson as he chased a long ball over the top, kicking the keeper in the head.
Ederson had to be taken off on a stretcher, with Mane shown a straight red card, much to Klopp's frustration. To add to the German's anger, Liverpool would concede four more goals to be smashed 5-0 by City.
“I don’t think it’s a red card, he didn’t see him. I saw the goalie already and obviously it’s not that bad," he said.
"In the first moment everyone thought it was really bad. It was unlucky, it was an accident. The goalkeeper comes out, Sadio wants the ball. To get a red card in a game like this is really unlucky.
Joe Gomez v Sevilla – September 2017
A recurring theme of the red cards Liverpool have been shown is that they have come from two bookable offences. The same thing happened to Joe Gomez four days after Mane's sending off when Liverpool faced Sevilla in the Champions League group stages.
He caught a Sevilla player with an unnecessary challenge deep into injury time of the 2-2 draw. The Reds had gone 2-1 up before being pegged back, with Sevilla boss Eduardo Berizzo also sent off, though Klopp was left frustrated.
"Disappointment and frustration are completely normal. We're responsible for the very, very, very good parts in the game and also responsible for the not so good parts. That means you have to take it and use it, you have to feel disappointment," he said.
Jordan Henderson v Watford - November 2018
Yet another sending off for committing two bookable offences came in November 2018 as Liverpool ran out comfortable winners at Watford. Jordan Henderson had been warned several times about the number of fouls he was making, before taking out Etienne Capoue.
That foul earned him his marching orders from Jon Moss, though his early bath had no impact on the result. Goals from Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Roberto Firmino earned the Reds a 3-0 win, with Klopp blaming himself for not taking Henderson off earlier.
“I think they were both yellow cards, but things like this happen. You play in a defensive midfield situation and I don’t know how many challenges Hendo had today or situations where he had to be closing the player or space. With the second one, I didn’t like too much because we wanted to change in that situation. Fabinho was ready and then he (Henderson) got it," he said.
James Milner v Crystal Palace – January 2019
The only player to be sent off twice under Klopp is Milner, who again fell victim to Zaha's trickiness on the wing. He again picked up two yellow cards in what was a 4-3 thriller, though Liverpool had already made the win safe.
Salah scored twice as the Reds came from behind, with Firmino and Mane also adding their names to the scoresheet. Klopp insisted after the game that Milner's red card showed the fighting character of his squad.
"These boys are ready to do that, they are real fighters. It’s a bunch of proper warriors – I love that. They all stick their leg in or whatever. If you would have seen Millie sitting in the dressing room, completely frustrated obviously because of the [red] card but both knees bleeding – where can you get that from on that fantastic pitch?" Klopp said.
Alisson v Brighton – November 2019
Alisson's calamitous decision to handle the ball outside his own box to block Leandro Trossard's shot earned him a straight red card in November 2019. The Reds had already gone two goals ahead thanks to a double from Virgil van Dijk.
But the keeper's sending off ensured a nervy finish, with his replacement Adrian picking the ball out of his net with his first touch. That was after Lewis Dunk cleverly scored with his free-kick, with the goalkeeper not yet set, though Klopp defended Alisson despite his mistake.
“I think it was handball but I haven’t seen it. There was no offside and then it is a tricky situation. Alisson is a front-footed goalkeeper. We want that from him. He wanted 100 per cent to head the ball but the other player got there earlier so we can’t change that,” Klopp said.
Andrew Robertson v Spurs – December 2021
Liverpool's sole sending off last season came during an instant classic against Tottenham. Andy Robertson had scored to put the Reds ahead but a moment of madness saw him kick out at Emerson Royal after the ball had gone.
A VAR check led to the Scot being sent off three minutes after Heung-Min Son equalised. Despite the VAR check being needed it was an obvious red card, though Klopp was left angry Spurs had not also gone down to 10 men for a challenge from Harry Kane on Robertson.
"Robbo is a really good boy but he lost it. You can give a red card for that. But it proves that the VAR was there, because before that we were thinking he isn't in his office. We can give Robbo a red card, it's not the smartest challenge of his life. But that's definitely a red card, no doubt about it," Klopp said.
Darwin Nunez v Crystal Palace – August 2022
The earliest point in the season for Liverpool to have a player sent off came on Monday night. Darwin Nunez had been riled up by Joachim Andersen, with the striker headbutting the Palace defender in frustration.
There was no doubt that Nunez deserved his red card, despite the Uruguyan attempting to argue his case. Klopp though disagreed with his player, insisting that he needs to become more savvy against Premier League defenders.
“Darwin knows [he let his team-mates down]. I will talk to him. It was not a reaction we want to see. He knows he will be challenged in this way, centre-halves will do that, but it is not a reaction we want. But we will use the time productively. We will use the suspension for physical work to make him strong – not a punishment but to make him stronger," the Liverpool boss said.
