Newcastle United record signing Alexander Isak was recommended to Liverpool as a potential transfer target a year before his blockbuster Magpies move. That is according to former United defender Jose Enrique, who has dismissed any concerns over the 'crazy' transfer fee to land the Real Sociedad star.
Eddie Howe finally landed an attacking recruit after weeks of frustration with the deal to sign the Sweden international. Isak travelled with the squad for the draw at Wolves on Sunday night, and may not be eligible to make his Newcastle debut on Wednesday night at Anfield.
Enrique believes the 22-year-old fits the ideal 'profile' for what the Magpies require, given Callum Wilson's injury record on Tyneside. The former full-back has also revealed he urged the Reds to move for Isak last year.
