Alisson Becker 7
Left exposed by both Arsenal goals but otherwise little else to do before break. Dealt well with succession of set-pieces second half.
Trent Alexander-Arnold 5
Martinelli got in behind to score in first minute but after ball forward prompted equaliser, at fault for the second. Took heavy knock and subbed at half-time.
Joel Matip 6
Coped reasonably well with Jesus especially when stepping out of defensive line in early stages. More difficult after break. Subbed.
AS IT HAPPENED: Arsenal vs Liverpool goal updates and analysis
Virgil van Dijk 6
Some important clearing headers and a threat in the air at the other end from set-pieces. Conspicuously absent for second goal, however.
Kostas Tsimikas 6
Went missing for the opener and some shaky moments, but remained committed up against the tricky Saka who caused him occasional issues.
Jordan Henderson 5
All over the place for much of the opening quarter but began to use the ball a bit better before interval. Couldn’t prevent second Arsenal goal, however, and tough going after break. Part in initiating second Liverpool equaliser.
Thiago Alcantara 7
Helped Liverpool gradually win control of the midfield battle before break, with passing and some timely interventions. Not as influential second half and angry to concede penalty.
Mohamed Salah 5
One run took him past two players before shooting wide, but otherwise very peripheral. Subbed.
Diogo Jota 6
Threatened with pace whenever given any room to run from deep in central position. Switched to left when Diaz went off and created second for Firmino. Subbed.
Luis Diaz 8
Liverpool’s most potent attacker with his strong, direct running that caused White all sorts of problems. Great assist for equaliser, but harshly booked. Injured in challenge by Partey and subbed.
Darwin Nunez 7
Held the ball up well in tight situations, denied once by Ramsdale and took goal very well. Needed better service after the interval.
Roberto Firmino (for Diaz 42) 7
Brought on for the stricken Diaz to play behind Nunez, and took his goal brilliantly.
Joe Gomez (for Alexander-Arnold 46) 6
Worked hard in attempting to keep the dangerous Martinelli quiet. Booked.
Ibrahima Konate (for Matip 69) 5
Probably not the ideal time to be thrown on for first appearance of the season.
Fabinho (for Salah 69) 5
Couldn’t make much positive difference.
Harvey Elliott (for Jota 81)
Big ask to help turn the game around.
