Liverpool player ratings as Alisson and Joe Gomez good but two stars poor against Everton

Alisson Becker 8

Made routine stop from Gordon but superb to stand tall and deny Maupay after Everton counter second half and later turn over deflected McNeil shot.

Trent Alexander-Arnold 5

Passing radar well off on too many occasions before break and sometimes slow to react defensively. Slight improvement second half but subbed.

Joe Gomez 8

Again Liverpool’s most composed defender and wasn’t having any nonsense from Gray or Maupay. Resolute and switched to right-back late on.

YOUR SHOUT: Rate the Liverpool players after derby draw away to Everton

Virgil van Dijk 6

Everton largely kept the ball away from the Dutchman before the break. Busier second half and one good block. Booked.

Kostas Tsimikas 6

Involved in a running battle with Gordon in which he revelled, although set-piece deliveries could have been better. Subbed.

Fabinho 6

Saw a lot of the ball in the deeper midfield position but unable to create much. Among the many Liverpool players denied by Pickford during an intense spell second half.

Harvey Elliott 6

Tried to get Liverpool going early on in an attacking sense with bursts of swift passing. Tougher going when moved into a deeper midfield role. Subbed.

Fabio Carvalho 5

Looked lost on his first Liverpool start and struggled to make any significant impact. Struggled after picking up a knock and subbed at half-time.

Mohamed Salah 6

Barely involved before break but caused mild panic on the rare moments he got near the Everton area. More openings the longer the game progressed and created chance for Firmino.

Darwin Nunez 6

Sent two headers off target and became more involved as he grew in confidence towards interval, with fierce effort well saved by Pickford on to the crossbar. Close again second half. Subbed.

Luis Diaz 7

Tussled with Patterson and direct running caused a threat, and unlucky with shot that hit inside of post. Maintained good level throughout.

Roberto Firmino (for Carvalho 46) 7

Dropping into midfield, made an instant difference with his use of the ball and pressing. Twice denied a goal by good Pickford saves.

James Milner (for Alexander-Arnold 59) 6

Some issues when introduced at right-back but later moved forward to solidify the midfield.

Andy Robertson (for Tsimikas 59) 6

Not much opportunity to probe forward as Everton began to create chances.

Joel Matip (for Elliott 80)

Brought on at centre-back to facilitate the midfield reshuffle.

Diogo Jota (for Nunez 80)

First appearance of the season for the Portuguese. Could have done better with injury-time header.
