Liverpool player ratings after heartbreak in Champions League final vs Real Madrid

Alisson Becker 6

Largely unemployed but then made a pig’s ear of Benzema’s disallowed goal and was then almost tackled by the same player moments later. Saved well at Vinicius feet and no chance on goal.

Trent Alexander-Arnold 6

Not overly troubled by Vinicius defensively first half and strong moments going forward, but failed to track the Brazilian for the winner.

Ibrahima Konate 8

Bullied Vinicius early on and caused Real a few issues when taking the ball out from the back. Good defending as the game became stretched late on.

Virgil van Dijk 7

Stepped out of the defensive line on occasion to deal with Benzema first half and not required much after that.

Andy Robertson 7

Pushed on whenever he could before break to support Diaz and was solid at the back. Became more involved as Liverpool pressed for a leveller.

Fabinho 7

Mopped up when required but Liverpool’s first-half dominance meant he was more often on the defensive. Same story again second half.

Thiago Alcantara 6

Some good touches early on calmed nerves after injury concerns, but quiet after that and wasn’t 100%. Subbed.

Jordan Henderson 7

Looked to get Liverpool moving during a lively opening and some decent defensive interventions. Good second half but sacrificed in search of an equaliser.

Mohamed Salah 7

A bit slow at moving ball at times first half, but still twice tested Courtois and then drew three excellent saves from the goalkeeper second half.

Sadio Mane 7

Caused Real constant problems with power and quick feet and saw fierce shot turned on to post by Courtois. Not much protection from referee, though.

Luis Diaz 6

Began brightly up against Carvajal but the Real defender began to edge the battle the longer the game progressed. Subbed.

Diogo Jota (for Diaz 65) 6

Among the many Liverpool players denied by Courtois.

Naby Keita (for Henderson 77) 6

Brought impetus to the midfield but the less said about his shot the better.
