Liverpool bounced back from their weekend defeat at Nottingham Forest to defeat Ajax on Wednesday evening and quality for the Champions League knockout stages.
Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez and Harvey Elliott were all on target for the Reds in their victory in Amsterdam, which was a hugely impressive result although slightly misleading after the Dutch champions missed a host of early opportunities in the clash.
The Reds will now return to Premier League action on Saturday as they play host to struggling Leeds United at Anfield, aiming to reignite their top four challenge. Mirror Football has analysed the main Liverpool headlines for Thursday, October 27.
Salah’s phone call to Nunez
Darwin Nunez says he has been able to overcome his early jitters at Liverpool thanks to the help of Mohamed Salah.
Uruguay forward Nunez scored in the Community Shield win over Manchester City and then on his Premier League bow after coming on as a substitute at Fulham, but after receiving a straight red card on his first Reds start against Crystal Palace he admits he found his new environment difficult.

The 23-year-old then returned with five goalless appearances, although only two of those were starts, as he found his performances mocked by football fans who are sceptical of Liverpool's decision to shell out what could become a club record transfer fee on the forward.

Klopp “very angry” about missed transfer
Jurgen Klopp has admitted he was angry with himself after seeing Ajax pick up Dusan Tadic.
Serbian international Tadic joined the Dutch side in 2018 and helped them reach the semi-finals of the Champions League in his first season back in the Eredivisie. Before then, though, he caught the eye of Klopp while playing with former Liverpool star Sadio Mane at Southampton.
Tadic, who spent time with Groningen and Twente earlier in his career, captained Ajax at Anfield in September as Alfred Schreuder's side suffered a last-gasp defeat. The Dutch champions fell to a three-goal defeat against the Reds on Wednesday.

Klopp’s Nunez reaction
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp shared a special embrace with striker Darwin Nunez after the Reds cruised to a win at Ajax on Wednesday evening.
The Merseyside outfit overcame the Eredivisie champions with ease with a three-goal victory, despite the hosts missing a host of fantastic openings in a nervy opening half of the encounter. Mohamed Salah, Harvey Elliott and Nunez all got on the scoresheet as Klopp’s side sealed their progress to the Round of 16.
Uruguayan striker Nunez went through the range of emotions throughout the match as he inexplicably missed a glorious opportunity during the opening period of the clash, before atoning for that wastefulness by scoring an excellent header later in the encounter.
