Liverpool news: Jurgen Klopp's 'golden rule' at risk amid £130m Jude Bellingham advice

Liverpool return to action for the first time since the international break when they make the trip to Manchester City on Saturday afternoon.

Jurgen Klopp's side sit seven points behind fourth-placed Tottenham in the race for a Champions League spot but have two games in hand on Spurs. However, it couldn't be much tougher for the Reds in their first Premier League assignment since the 1-0 defeat at Bournemouth on March 11.

In the meantime, a number of Liverpool players have been out on international duty. One of them is Andy Robertson, who helped Scotland to a 2-0 win over Spain on Tuesday. Interestingly, the Liverpool left-back hit back after Manchester City star Rodri slammed the Tartan Army's tactics, ahead of this weekend's titanic fixture.

Here is the latest news coming out of Anfield.

Klopp's rule could be broken

Liverpool are expected to change their summer plans after an injury-hit campaign.

The Reds were superb last season but have struggled this time around with injuries playing a massive part as they attempt to limp into the Champions League places. Earlier this year, Klopp revealed that he wished he did things differently in pre-season, rather than his usual 'golden rule'. That is to head to Europe after a money-spinning trip to Asia, where they played Manchester United.

According to the Liverpool Echo, the club have taken Klopp's feedback on board and their pre-season plans are set to be slightly different to that of last year. Although the Reds' schedule hasn't been confirmed, it won't involve a mammoth trip to Asia and then back to Europe straight away to play more matches.

When asked what he might to differently in pre-season to avoid a spate of injuries, Klopp said: 'I wouldn't go, in the first week, to Asia. Not because Asia is not great, but I would go to Asia in the third week, or something like that, but it was not in really in our hands."

Robertson hits out at Rodri

Andy Robertson has chose to go down a different route to Rodri after the Manchester City hit out at Scotland's game plan in Spain's 2-0 defeat at Hampden Park.

Steve Clarke's side ran out deserved winners in Glasgow thanks to a brace from Manchester United star Scott McTominay. It was a result that has lifted them to the top of Group A with six points from six.

However, Rodri decided to brand Scotland's style of football as "rubbish". In response, Robertson dismissed the claim that about Scotland's plan and revealed they wanted to be physical and get in their face from the off.

"Yeah look, I think they were going down a little bit easily, we were trying to say that," Robertson told Viaplay Sports of Spain's players. "We were always going to try to be physical, we wanted to be in their faces, win our headers and challenges and I think we did that.

"I don’t think we crossed the line. They were, especially in the first half, rolling about a wee bit much but they use their experience and they got a couple of us booked which is fair enough to them."

Liverpool urged to sign Bellingham

Former Liverpool wonderkid Bobby Duncan has told the Reds to sign Jude Bellingham this summer and believes it would be the best investment they can make.

Bellingham, 19, who starred for England at the World Cup, is expected to leave Borussia Dortmund this summer and a number of clubs are tracking his services. Liverpool are amongst the teams in the race, with Manchester United, Manchester City and Real Madrid also keen.

"130 million for Jude is the best investment Liverpool can make," Duncan wrote on Twitter. "They’d spend that in 5 years on new midfielders rather than having a midfielder for the next 15 years in concrete."
