Liverpool news: John Henry approves transfer as Mohamed Salah faces fight for Golden Boot

It was all smiles at Anfield on Saturday as Liverpool picked up their first Premier League win of the season against Bournemouth.

And what a win it was. The Reds produced a record-equalling 9-0 victory against the Cherries to get their title bid up and running. Jurgen Klopp was delighted with his players, yet there's a chance he could add to his squad before Thursday's deadline.

Transfer stories will dominate the footballing agenda between now and deadline day, yet there are other things happening on Merseyside - most notably Liverpool's game against Newcastle on Wednesday. Here are the latest headlines from Anfield.

Henry approves transfer

Reds owner John Henry appeared to approve the signing of a new central midfielder during Saturday's huge win against Bournemouth. The Liverpool owner was filmed walking down the tunnel at Anfield and told: "John, we need a midfielder."

Henry turned to the fan and gave a thumb's up, hinting he agrees with his assessment. Henry might have only been acknowledging the fan and other supporters within the ground, but it suggests Liverpool's summer transfer business might not be done just yet.

Do you think Liverpool will sign another player before the transfer deadline? Let us know in the comments below!

Klopp certainly believes Liverpool need a new central midfielder. Speaking ahead of Saturday's game, he said: "I know we have had this discussion since it all started and I am the one who said we don’t need a midfielder and you were all right and I was wrong.

"That’s the situation. There is really nothing more to say about it. We are looking for it, and if it is the right player we need him and if it is not the right player we don’t need him... I don’t know [if it will happen before Thursday's deadline], we will see. It needs to be the right player, but we are working, and we will see if something will happen or not."

But who could Liverpool sign? Mirror Football's Mark Jones takes a look at eight impressive central midfielders that could move to Merseyside in the coming days.

Salah's Golden Boot defence

Players always insist personal honours aren't that important, but we all know how much they care. That's particularly true when it comes to the Premier League's Golden Boot, which was shared by Mohamed Salah and Son Heung-min last season.

This season, Erling Haaland is leading the race for it with six goals in just four games - including a hat-trick in Manchester City's win against Crystal Palace on Saturday. Fulham's Aleksandar Mitrovic, Tottenham's Harry Kane and Leeds' Rodrigo all have four goals each.

Can Salah defend his crown after a slow start to the season? To find out, Mirror Football's team of writers have placed their bets on the Golden Boot race.

Liverpool's famous sons

Bobby Clark made his Liverpool debut on Saturday (REUTERS)

Bobby Clark made his Premier League debut for Liverpool on Saturday, aged just 17. "No feeling quite like this one making my Premier League debut in front of the best fans in the world at Anfield," tweeted the Englishman afterwards. "Dreams do come true."

Discussing Clark's progress last week, Klopp said: "I’m really, really happy with the boys Stefan [Bajcetic, who also made his debut on Saturday] and Bobby. I’m not sure they would be that close to the first team already at 17 years old if we would have them all [the whole squad] available, and then now they make real steps."

Yet Clark isn't the first member of his family to play in the Premier League. That honour belongs to his dad Lee, who played for Newcastle, Fulham and Sunderland in England's top-flight. The ex-midfielder is also known for being a manager, enjoying spells at Huddersfield, Birmingham City, Blackpool and Kilmarnock.

And Clark isn't the only Liverpool academy star with a famous dad. He and four other members of the youth set up are the offspring of former professional footballers - including a cult hero at Anfield.
